It's the battle of the Davids!
Next week's American Idol finale will pit 17-year-old favorite David Archuleta versus soulful rocker David Cook, 25, in what judge Simon Cowell calls "a real humdinger!"
It’ll be the first guy vs. guy finale since season 2’s Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard showdown.
On Wednesday night's Idol, Florida native Syesha Mercado, 21, was sent home after receiving lukewarm reviews from the judges for her three performances the night before. Ryan Seacrest said over 56 million viewers had voted.
The aspiring actress was ever the professional — performing Alicia Key's "If I Ain't Got You" without shedding a tear Wednesday.
Former Idol winner Fantasia Barrino also performed.

Cathy217, the word is "prodigy" not "prodgy". The artist is "Daughtry" not Daughtery."
Right or wrong, grammar and proper spelling do affect how seriously your opinon(s) is/are taken.
Whether or not he wins, David Cook will, in the long run, be the most successful.
Daughtry, who got booted at #4, had the best-selling pop album for 2007. Compare that to Taylor Hicks and Katherine McPhee.
Archuletta, like Clay Aiken, will do really well. But Cook will join the ranks of Underwood and Daughtry.

It's not really true that more people vote for Idol than for President. Keep in mind that a large number of people voting on Idol aren't old enough to vote for President, and people can vote more than once. Some people vote a hundred times in one evening. Just wanted to put that into perspective. I am voting for David A. for the following reasons...even if David C. comes in second, he will have a record contract and do well like Daughtry did. David A. may not do as well in second place. He needs the win more than David C. I love them both, but my votes will go for David A.

Okay they're both really good, but I'm rooting for David Archuleta. I'm a 17 year old guy and i think he connects so well with his songs and is one of the most inspiring people. I won't put down DC cause he's great two. But i think you all you guys saying Archuleta is gunna be so unsuccessful and flunk as the idol winner are wrong, i think he's got a great career ahead of him, he's young, has many fans, and the kid can sing. I really hope he wins.

First of all, I think it's SO sad that Americans vote more on American Idol than they do for their own president. Secondly, I basically wasted my time watching this show only to see that David Archuleta will win. I will be sooooo happy if David Cook wins! Please let him win! But David Archuleta sounds the same every time he sings, there's no variation! Unlike David Cook, who actually takes risks.

I think David Cook should win and deserves it more than anyone!! He is a true original and can sing a wide array of music. He also is NOT a Daughtry copy cat and will be around for a long, long time. I think he is going to be huge in the music industry for many years to come.
David Archuleta is very talented in a Josh Groban way. I don't think he will be famous that long though. He has a lot of growing to do in the music world and teen fans only pay attention for so long and go on to the next young performer. I also think he could do much better where stage presence is concerned--he is very boring in that respect. He also cannot pull off a wide array of music like David Cook can and has a long way to go as far as growth.
The American Idol should be someone who is very original and can sing a wide array of music and David Cook is that person!

To have the talent level he has at 17 is excellent, some coaching will
help raise him up to the top. David Archuleta will win because we have
too many rockers, David Cook is good, but not unique enough. DA has the
style that has room for more superstars.

What the heck was up with Fantasia last night? She was one hot mess and then some. The look on Simon's face was priceless, his face said it all. Fantasia never should have won anyways, she can't sing for sh*t. She sounds like a really really really bad impersonation of Tina Turner and I do mean really bad.
As for the final two. I hope David Cook wins. Archuleta is a sweet sweet kid, but Cook is worlds beyond him in vocals and honestly, so was a lot of the others that were voted off. Not to mention, I don't know if he could handle the craziness of being a celeb/singer. AND, his dad would probably ride him hard and he would end of snapping. GOOD LUCK COOK!!!
