Nerves ran high on last night’s American Idol as the Top 12 performed tunes by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
Idol fave, 17-year-old David Archuleta forgot a portion of the lyrics to “We Can Work It Out.”
His eyes widened as he hummed along to a few of the bars.
After finishing, Cowell — who had previously praised him as being “the one to beat” — exclaimed, “That was a mess! It was your weakest performance so far.”
The night’s most energetic performance: 22-year-old Chikezie Eze (referred to as just "Chikezie" on the show).
After he was nearly voted off last week, he wowed the judges with a cover of “She’s a Woman.”

I'm not sure where you're getting that Archuletta "fudged a few words of 'Imagine'," Maurice. I've listened to that performance many times and know the song itself to heart and never noticed him even coming close to missing any of the lyrics.

I really enjoy watching American Idol and I do have my favorites. As I watch each week and see the shocking results at times, it just raises my interest. Who's next to go? I don't care who wins. I have never bought Taylor Hicks' CD, nor some of the other winners. I have bought Diana Degarmo's and a few others CDs including winners and early cast offs. American Idol is not perfect, if it was how boring would that be? It's the controversy, excitement and disappointment that keeps me watching. I don't bother to vote for my favorite. I am much more proactive than that. I buy their CD(s).

It's truly amazing how people are taken in by the cute kid. I have never watched American Idol until this year, my problem with the show is that it isn't all about the talent level of the constestants, it's more of a popularity contest. Which is sad, because as this posting is going to get bashed by a lot of uninformed teenagers who think that the cute guy who is their dreamboat should not be called out for anything anytime. David A. should have been shown the door the moment he grinned and hummed his way through the beginning of We can work it out. He should have worked the song out more and maybe he might have not forgotten the words. In a talent competiton that is pure, the cardinal sin of any singer is forgetting lyrics. Even people like Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley chose to look foolish in performances by reading lyrics from a sheet so as to not miss words. They could get away with it, they were, after all, Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley. David Archuleta is neither Frank nor Elvis, no matter how hard the one true talent judge and the other alleged judges try to position America's opinion. I would love for American Idol to publish the exact vote counts without any Florida or Ohio type fudging. I also would like to see the disclaimer that reads that the producers have a say in who stays and who goes as well. America it seems is totally in love with their votes being messed with for the past 7 years. I don't think that this kid should be on the show at this point because of the lyrics thing, and also because he just isn't quite as charismatic as some of the other contestants who as of yet haven't missed the lyrics. By the way, our young Mr. Archuleta fudged a couple words during Imagine, too. No one seemed to notice.

David A is not all that... in fact I can't stand any of the people on AI this season. They all suck. I watch it to get a good laugh, seriously . Simon reams them all and almost as good as Chef Ramsey does on Hells Kitchen. You've got to love that dry english humor.
In regards to David A, I think the contestants should be 18 and over. It's like child abuse to allow people under 18 on it. And pretty sick if you look at the big picture.
This show started out as a good idea, I suppose. But the hype has become so corney and the performers so weak,it's funny. I mean c'mon none of these people last more then one hit record, or become legends...and definatly not rock stars in the real sense of the word.
Lmfao and P.S. The Archullo kid is a closet gay I agree.....

Chill out Brittany. There is absolutely no excuse for forgetting lyrics on a show that is completely about singing. That is the whole point of the show. I was reading other articles about this and supposedly, the number one "ten commandments" of American Idol is to not forget the lyrics. Even if he wasn't sure about the song, didn't he practice before?...YES! So he should have known the lyrics in time. It wasn't even that long a song. I think David has a great voice and I do think this was his worst week, but I still think he will win...almost no doubt about it. JUST CHILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who cares if I don't say what my name is anyway!

Well looks like you didn't watch all of the show because in the video before his performance he said he was going to try his best, but he didn't know any of the beatles songs, and he had to choose one of their songs since that was the theme for the night and all, so thats why he chose it. So to that person who won't even give their name at 7:23 p.m. your the one who needs to wash out their ears or watch all of the show. I mean it's understandable he doesn't know any of their songs, he is only 17. And i'm 16 so I can say a lot of people our age only know a couple of their songs if that many because I only know let it be. One more thing, I don't think it affected him any, he's still there and like Simon said, he wouldn't be suprised if me made it too the top two, and I wouldn't be suprised if him, David Cook, Jason Castro, or Carly Smithson won it because those four are the best on the show this year.

David had one bad week among several great ones. It happens to the best of us, but that doesn't mean he isn't still the best singer on the show. What is important is how he bounces back and I believe he will come back greater than ever. Despite the mishap on Tuesday, David still has my full support and I'll be praying for him. David is great. I'm a parent of two teenage daughters and they love the show. Personally, I think David Archuleta will stay. He's not one of those kids who'll capture hearts and then get dumped at the side of the road. Thats not how it happens. I will be extremely sad to see him go, if America wanted to go down that path last night. He's a great addition to the show and sure makes me want to keep up with the race! David will stay. 99% sure of it.
