David Archuleta is standing up for his dad Jeff after reports surfaced he'd been banned from American Idol's backstage.
“I don’t really care what people say, but I know it’s affected him and stressed him out," Archuleta, 17, says in the newest issue of TV Guide.
Jeff, who told Usmagazine.com that he's "no stage dad," enraged show producers when he reportedly insisted his 17-year-old son switch up the lyrics of "Stand by Me" to include a verse from Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls," despite warnings not to do so.
As a result, Idol had to pay increased royalties, according to TMZ.com.
“I’ve heard some weird things that people have been saying, and it’s kind of a bummer,” Archuleta added. “I think I, of all people, would know what’s going on, and he’s been great.
"He’s given me a lot of good advice and helped me from making any dumb decisions," Archuleta said. "He understands more than anyone what I want in music, and I’ve felt really blessed to have someone like that.”
As for reports that Jeff withheld water from his son during a recording session?
"That’s kind of stupid," he insists. "I’m 17! I think I’d be able to stand up for myself if he were to take my water away.”
Archuleta is one of the three remaining contestants. He performs along side Syesha Mercado and David Cook on Tuesday night's show.

It's fine that you prefer the voice of David Cook over Archuleta. Really, that's just a matter of taste because really all the things you said about Cook I could say about Archuleta like his voice is breathtaking etc. Honestly, I don't really care for David Cook's voice but I would never call him names such as monkey or say I hope he didn't have a "next time" for his dreams to come true. Because while I may not prefer his music, he has shown himself to be a nice person and I respect him for that. And I, like you, wish him the best in his career and anything he chooses to do. David Archuleta has been nothing but genuially kind, sweet, respectful, and classy to everyone he comes in contact with including Cook and I can't believe you would say such things about a 17 year old who shows such amazing qualities! You don't have to like his singing, but you should show some class and respect the person. He has done nothing to deserve such hateful things to be said to him and I think you should apologize. You are right about one thing, there is no comparison between Cook and Archuleta...Archuleta is lightyears above Cook and always will be!

i think both the davids are good, but i honestly like david archuleta's voice better!! i also think that david a. will be more successful in the future!! i got a magazine and it showed the polls of what people think, and one of them said who will be a bigger star in the future and the choices were: david cook & david archuleta and here were the results: david archuleta: 79% and david cook 21%.... but you never know whats gonna happen!! actually david archuleta's my most favorite star ever!! he has the best smile ever, he has good looks, he has a great personality, he's has a great voice!!
ps: in my opinion he is a great all-around person, and i'm pretty sure he's not gay like some people have been sayin', you're all just jealous of him because majority of the girls around are in love with him and ya'll just wish you were him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

i honestly think they r both good too, buti honestly like david archuleta's voice better i mean if u just listen to it and give a chance u can here how pure it is and all of you should got o youtube and listen to a song he sang that was posted 18 hours ago it's called 'crazy', ( well enless you already saw it , oh and go to the 1 that says full version, when they're talking to his dad at first it's better!!
ps: that's just my opinion but everybody's different so yeah!! :)

Archie all the way baby!!! I love his voice smile and every thing!!! Cook is like a jerk but he does have a pretty good voice, Cook never said thank you to the judges or the fans until the final after he won!!!!

To All David's Cook Fans. If you all so sure that he has a great voice, why do you put nasty comments about David Archuleta? Do you feel better about yourself or are you insecure that David Archuleta is the real deal. I am a Fan of DA and I love listening to him when he sings because for a 17 old kid, he got class and why do you think David Cook has a lot of respect for him. David Archuleta has put his heart and soul to every one of his performance. He never miss a note when he sang and his voice is awesome. He is a great singer and I can't wait for him to make his own album and be in line to buy his record. In the meantime I have to settle listening on his music playlist. I listen to all his songs everyday and I love it. David A, don't pay attention to these nasty people. Stay nice, humble and keep smiling. Stay forcus on your music career, you will be successful. There is no comparison between David A. and David Cook. David Cook is amazing, and is more talented then David A. could ever hope to be. David A. is a little monkey boy who squints his eyes when he "sings". He sounds like he's plugging his nose when he sings, and it's really weird sounding. And did somebody say he was SEXY? Uh, ew! David Cook's voice is interesting and is incredibly breathtaking, and I while I would pay David A. money NOT TO SING, I would pay money for David Cook's album. Plus, David Cook is pretty handsome. I am indescribably happy that David Cook won, and I wish him the best. As for Monkey Archuleta, better luck next time...which I really hope there isn't one for him.

I sincerely hope David will pull away from his father after he becomes of age as he can have a great career in music if he quits being under his daddy's thumb. It is obvious his father has only consideration for what HE alone wants and the main thing he wants for himself is recognition. I hope American Idol sues him for the money they had to put out because he ignored them. After all, they have it in writing (e-mail) that he was told not to do it. Still I doubt if that would teach him a lesson. He is one control freak who wants fame for himself and since he couldn't get it is trying to get it through his son. Poor David!!! Yet, someday he will see this. I wonder how many people did not vote for David because they didn't want his father in control and felt like me that any money he may get would be used by his father supposedly for David.

I liked both singers. I was more for David A. I am not a teen but in my young thirties. I could see me purchasing a David A. cd over Cook. I believe if you take the band away, David A. could have won. Cook is hidden behind the band and loud music. The voice of David A. won me over from the start of the season. Even though he didn't win, I still feel he will go far. Too many negative people wantto knock down others. I believe America wanted a rocker to win this year and he did. Congrats Cook, but don't give up David A.

And if you look into all of the allegations closer....you will discover that this Phillip Daggett person is only someone who will do anything to attach his name to the coat-tails of rising stars...He created the rumors himself to increase his visibility on you tube...check it out, he just started a new u-tube and is counting on people to view all of his sorry stuff. He thinks he is talented, but in reality he is self centered, stuck on himself and he thinks he is better. It wouldn't surprise me if he was booted from the preliminary auditions on Idol.
The rumors are false and only generated by Daggett.
David Archuleta is very talented & does not deserve the extra burden this has all placed on him, his family and most likely the producers of Idol. He is a winner either way and his talent will take him on a long journey which will be rewarding for himself and all who believe in him.
We can all be proud of David Archuleta........Shame on you ...Phillip Daggett for attaching your character (which includes fraud) to such a promising individual.

David A is a decent singer...give him some time to grow up and who knows. No one here does. At his age...doing what he is doing..you have to be impressed...if for no other reason.
Cook is by far the better of the two in all areas except perhaps being attractive to 13 year olds.
Imho... it just depends on who you are and what you like...but from a buisness stand point...Cook is money now.

david cook is mainstream, and AI is basically changing everything for him to win. cook isn't as good they say he is.
archie, on the other hand, is not mainstream, so winning AI, which is mostly pop oriented, would not do much for him. plus, out of the six previous winners, only two have actually had a successful career: kelly clarkson and carrie underwood.
