I saw the show and it wasn't just about the hungry kids. There was also some promoting going on for Drews movies, the magazine, and the makeup. Also for Oprahs (stupid) Big Give show. C'mon people. Don't be so naive. Why should either one of them buy time for a commercial when they can make a donation for the camera instead? They get a tax break and all the time they need to sell their products. I'm not saying that Drew doesn't feel bad for the hungry kids. I'm sure she does. But she also used the spot to sell her own stuff. Anyway, it would have cost her more than a million to buy a commercial. So she got a deal and some good PR at the same time. C'mon people. Its business.

I am a big Drew Barrymore fan. But, I am so tired of hearing about all this foreign aid needed and going into other countries. Charity begins at home! Although we are one of the wealthiest countries in the world, we still have many children going to bed hungry. We still have a high amount of children in foster care and in orphanages, or worse, on the streets. Not to mention our current economy and housing issues. While I realize that celebrities wouldn't get as much press as they do when the donate to foreign charities, it would be amazing if they would think of donating to their own. There are still US citizens displaced from Hurrican Katarina. But I guess since we aren't seeing that terrible tragedy on the news anymore, American celebrities don't feel inclined to give to that cause. I feel for the people of the world who are struggling, but the US has got to start focusing on our own infrastructure. If we are not in a good place financially (which we are not), how can we be expected to help the poor of the world.

Okay 3:15, looks like you are from another country other than the US. Of course you are going to have the view you have.

So tell me, if Africa is so wonderful and full of natural resources why does an American donate 1 MILLION dollars to a country other than her own FIRST? Why not donate 500,000 to each? This is why I find this appauling because her OWN COUNTRY is in need TOO!

And to the person who said the US is full of wealth, you must be from another country too because I have to go to work everyday and pay high prices at the pump and grocery store and I don't have money just FALLING AT MY FEET. You are waaaaaay mistaken sweetheart!

One more thing I'll add, is I enjoy Drew Barrymore very much. She is quite lovely actually.

The reason for America's misfortune is your Government. They care more about war-mongering than helping other Nations. Maybe if The US put as much money into it's own Social safety net, there wouldn't be as much unemployment, people could become educated for a reasonable price, health care wouldn't be a luxury. All these things add to the instability of your economic culture.
AS For Drew, helping out people with nothing is actually a good thing, unless your country wants these people being helped by terrorist or extremists. Good work Drew, more people should be committed to helping the less fortunate-ever heard of GLOBAL VILLAGE people.

Wow that's terrible. I am african and i don't mean to whine but my people go through so much everyday. We do have jobs and we have some education but never as good as the United states. This is why i love this country. I struggled so much over there. I lost my father from aids. and my little sistas are very sick. Please don't make fun of us. We're not as privledged as you. If you ever came to visit you would see.

I did not know that mother Therese was still alive. Keep giving your money away. I already said it: Instead of giving money away to Africa what they REALLY need is spend one million $$$$$$ in SEX education classes and learn that having SEX bring a lot of diseases among those: AIDS. AFRICA is the one with the most AIDS people in the world. Besides that for every woman there have at least 15 kids.. and yet they must be saying "why worry??? if there is one million of $$$ coming next week"???So let's keep having kids. THE US will help us after all. If I won the MEGA I would not give my money to any charity or organization the people who manage those charities or organization fill UP their pockets with your money. I rather go and give money to any person that I see on the street. A person that I see all sweated coming from work, a mother with no car taking her kids to school or day care and then going to work.. My daughter was in a club for NEEDED KIDS in Africa and was kicked out because she or better yet ME did not donate $$$$$.

Oh my god - read the crap you people spew! Do some research and fully understand the differences between what "Our country" has and what other countries do not have! How many people want to come to America for a better life and you people are whining about it? These people don't have the money and incomes the US has. They don't have the luxuries we have. WHERE exactly in the U.S. do we have people starving to death like they do? Where in the U.S. do they force rules upon these people like they do? Instead of bashing someone's generosity for HELPING starving people, why don't you educate yourselves and read about it or donate a little money yourselves? Seriously...get a life and education before you rip people apart. The U.S. has ALWAYS been targeted by terrorists because we do not live under all the rules, restrictions that other countries live by? Why do you think they targeted and bombed the World Trade Center on 9/11? Because it represented the U.S. financial wealth! How many countries did you see dancing and celebrating on t.v. because the twin towers went down? That is one image that has been in my brain since 9/11 happened. U.S. is seen as wealthy, free and spoiled. Ever consider how WE are viewed by others? You don't see people living in huts in the U.S., eating simply rice on a daily basis because they have nothing else. Get real people! Get educated! I think what Drew has done is amazing. I work for a living, I donate what I can from my paycheck to help charities and organizations that NEED it. Can you do the same? Amazing what a difference if we all did that, what we could make. But no, people are to busy sitting on their computers reading and dissing the very people trying to help. Get a life!

I agree with the comments about our own country needing help. In my opinion the "stars" help foreign countries because they can get airtime, and press. There is no limelight for the donations that are given here. Like Jolie/Pitt...we have so many children HERE that need adoption. If you are so passionate about everyone else..then you should move there. Why not give to the people in your own back yard..who go to bed hungry..children living in shelters, children who have lost parents in this POS war. I'm sorry for all the people elsewhere that are suffering, it breaks my heart. But it also breaks my heart to see our Veterans in homeless shelters..begging for medical help and food. It breaks my heart to see children in inner city schools, that are wearing shoes that are 5 times too big because they can't afford shoes that fit. Sorry Drew your appearance on Oprah today didn't make me jump for joy.

7:38, no one said Europe "did a better job" as you write. Europe COLONIZED much of Africa. That is a BAD thing. That is why Africa is so divided. Rawanda genocides...result of European colonization. Colonization is an extremely negative thing!
