He is young and trying to have fun, we have all done this. Sometimes we think we are invincible. Let's hope he can get a driver or a friend who can be the designated driver. That's what my friends and I do. We take turns being the sober one so there is no trouble or problems.

I know that all of you keep saying that he is getting a tap on the wrist, but I really don't see it like that. I know many people who drive drunk and depending on how intoxicated they are, depends on how severe of a ticket and so forth they get. You don't just go to jail for this. The police never said that they were dropping the charges. Get a life and grow up. Sometimes I think it is too easy to judge those we consider to be famous. Many people do worse things every day, but you don't see it on tv because they aren't famous. For example, there is a lady here that has received more than 20 DUI's. How do you even do that? She finally caused a very serious accident, what famous person do you know has ever had that many dui's? Serious, he isn't the only one in the world that's ever received a DUI. Get a life people...

Like I said, Shia is the male version of Lindsay Lohan. I be he is "experimenting" with drugs as well.

It's wierd to see that so many people here are so mad that Shia isn't the one completly at fault here. Well I mean he is at fault for drunk driving but I dont know why everyone is so angry the the accident wasn't his fault. He's much more responsible than some other celebrities who have gotten DUI and it's not like he's totally off the hook for this. He still is charged with DUI and he had to get surgery for screwing up his hand so it's not like he's not going to learn his lesson. He might be a celebrity but he's still human and he makes mistakes so chill out everyone.

This situation hopefully will establish 2 points... the first- obviously, drinking and driving is reckless and dangerous, you do not have the right to jeopardize anyones life simply because you had a few too many. Im not saying all DWIs end in collision (most do not) but why take the chance? A cab is a lot cheaper than jail time. Also, DWIs are not the only form of irresponsible driving- hello, the guy ran a red light in busy Hollywood!! He was just as reckless and caused the chain of events. Three weeks ago I was driving down a street and saw a SUV turned over b/c a person ran a red light and collided with that car- all three passengers were seriously injured. The point- YES Shia should face the penalty of DWI BUT don't act like the other driver was innocent- he was just as irresponsible and reckless. I know its easier to blame the drunk driver- only b/c Im sure everyone has ran a red light at some point- but the fact is both drivers were at fault and should be held responsible. Driving is a not a right- you have to earn it so that means stop applying make up, use hand free cell phones, dont eat and obey the traffic laws. A car is a deadly weapon if treated poorly. Shia would still have been hit even if he hadn't been out boozing it- b/c the other guy ran the light- however, Shia was arrested for an illegal act which is the only positive aspect to this fiasco- only b/c it make him re-evaluate his current behavior and hopefully will deter him from doing the same in the future.

I read that the girl he was with crawled out of the drivers side maybe she was driving(not sure if passenger side was smashed). If not why haven't we heard what his alcohol level was.

The red light runner needs their license revoked. Reckless driving is as dangerous as drunk driving.

Well everyone makes mistakes...I also got a dui not to long ago...and yes its hard to just have one drink....but the world doesnt end, doesnt it? Life!

6:04- That had nothing to do with him breaking the law- it referred to people thinking the studios were trying to cover this up or that he won't recieve fair punishment. Just sit there and act like like you have never f**ked up or someone close to you hasn't and bash people who have. It must be pretty nice up on that high moral throne of yours.

4:45- Read the post again: where am I defending criminals?? And where am I defending celebrities? The point is people jumping to conclusions and the fact that the person who caused the accident should be held responsible- if Shia wasn't charged with a DUI would you expect the other driver to just walk away? I doubt it. If the situation was reversed most would be clamoring for justice if Shia wasn't cited for running a red light. Its called fairness- but I suppose most wouldn't know what that means. Also, celebrities aren't the only ones who get a slap on the wrist. I know many people through work who have gotten DUI's or been involved in a minor scrapes and merely paid a fine. The difference: "regular" folk don't have to face the scrutiny of the public at large. You are a perfect example of the judgemental people I was referring to.
