Melissa Henson and the The Parents Television Council needs to get a live and stop trying to control what other people watch. If they don't want their kids to watch it that's fine but they don't have to force their views on others. The show can't show can't undermine positive values that parents are trying to instill in their children if the parents are actually do their job instead of expecting the entertainment industry to do it.

I don't get what the big deal is about the ads. All the actors expect for Chace and Leighton are fully clothed and in the "topless" ad all her and Chace are doing is kissing. That is hardly racy.

I don't think parents (or anyone) should be blocking Gossip Girl, because honestly if the kids want to watch they'll find a way and I know if I was still 11 or 12 and my parents blocked something it would make me even more determined to watch it. But the reason I would've kept watching at that age would have been BECAUSE I didn't get all the references, and I would've felt like I was 'learning' about real life. Whereas now I'm older (15), if I didn't enjoy Gossip Girl I wouldn't watch, because I know I've seen it all before and they couldn't really do anything where I'd have to say 'I wonder what that means'.

As it happens, I do enjoy Gossip Girl and I will keep watching it.

Although the show is purporting to "cater to their 18-34 female demographic,” it is obvious countless viewers are well under 18. And, though a parent can place a block on the show, this does not deter viewerships b/c there are things as streaming videos, telephone vid capture, and so forth. So, if the minor wants to be exposed, s/he will be exposed with the help of technology and clever friends. Some are saying that parents should be responsible, and others are saying the network should be responsible, for the material people are exposed to. I believe both sides are equally responsible.

First and foremost, the network should be aware of the content they are exposing, and despite the market they are targeting, everyone knows it is the market just under the target which will be the most attuned to the show, hence the preteen/teen sect. It's about societal responsibility, my brother's keeper and so forth. One wouldn't let another get hit by a bus, if he could help it, would he? (One hopes not anyway).

However, with that being said, the bottom line is, the first, and in many cases, the only line of defense is the parent. The parent should be the most influential in a child's life, moreso than the child's teachers, friends, and most certainly more than a show, fictional or otherwise. Despite what the media is putting out, it is up to the parent to judge its appropriateness and instill in the child the values the parent things is right. So, no matter what the child sees, reads or hears, s/he will have the moral foundation taught by the parent to judge for his/herself what is right or wrong. In the end that's what every parent wants, a child who is a critical thinker.

One option I would recommend is to have the parent watch an episode with the minor and discuss the content together. Depending on the minor's level of maturity, the parent can gauge whether the show is appropriate or not.

This is stupid .....I am 13 and my parents let me watch the show....and they know that I know the difference between reality and shows...so yeah my parents trained me good and the only reason I watch the show is because of the clothes and the hot boys. Chace is awsome and cute

the ads are racy but the show is amazing so if parents don't want their kid watching it, then it's simple...block it .

My parents are aware I watch it,they don't mind,honestly I don't see why parents think it's so inappropriate.If you don't like it then don't let your children watch it.Values are instilled by the parents,if it's come to the point where TV is instilling values in your children that overrule the ones you teach ,you've done something wrong.Get over yourselves,stop blaming a show for your ineptitudes in parenting.If you don't want your children watching Gossip Girl,put a parental block on the show,they wont be able to watch it.Going around bashing the ads because YOU personally find them offensive,is childish and immature.If you need to get rid of ads to control your children's values,you are going about instilling them all wrong in the first place.I can tell you ,the VAST MAJORITY of teens swear and use phrases like omfg on a daily basis,if it appears on a campaign for a show,so what.This is entertainment people,it is not their job to create role models for YOUR children,that is your job the mere fact that you are looking to the latest 'it girl' for a role model for your children is pathetic.Be their role model yourself,stop trying to replace that by TV characters.You are all hypocrites you let your children's role models be TV characters yet you complain when the character turns out to be 'not the best role model' it's not the industries job to raise your children!This show is a hit,people(including teens)love it and will continue to watch it,no matter your efforts,the ads invite viewers to see what happens next.Parents try to hard to protect their children from the world around them,the result is not pretty,a child who has no understanding of how manipulative and scheming some people are. They end up getting hurt,because they have been living inside a bubble far to long and have never seen the brutality of humanity.The show is not racy or inappropriate,it is seen as such when organizations filled with hypocritical parents make it out to be.

In the ad of Leighton Meester isn't that a photo from the pool party episode where she kisses Nate then wanders because Chuck is still blackmailing her? She isn't topless she's just wearing a bandeau bikini top. The one of "Chuck" I think is from the episode where he wants to open his own club, he has a business meeting with his Dad like 30 seconds later. The only thing these ads are really guilty of is making the show seem racier than it really is.

it's a cheesy show . Rehashed sex crap. There is nothing stimulating about the ads, or the show.

I have better things to do with my time than waste it watching that kind of drivel.
