Teenage contestant David Archuleta left judge Paula Abdul in tears on last night’s American Idol.
I want to squish you, squeeze your head off and dangle you from my rear-view mirror,” Abdul gushed after the 17-year-old performed John Lennon’s “Imagine.”
“That was…one of the most moving performances I’ve ever heard,” Abdul continued. “You’re destined for super stardom.”
Even Simon Cowell — who’d been criticizing singers all night — praised Archuleta.
“There are 19 very miserable contestants sitting here tonight. Trust me,” Cowell said. “You’re the one to beat.”
There are 20 contestants remaining. The girls perform tonight, and four more will be voted off tomorrow.
Tell Us: Do you think David Archuleta is the one to beat?

Archuleta is definately the one to beat on this year's American Idol. I cannot see voting for anyone else but David. Should he win, he would be the BEST American Idol the show ever and will ever have.- Kelly and Carrie who? Hanna your days as teen idol are numbered! There is absolutely no question in my mind that this kid could be the biggest thing since Elvis. This performance will go down as Historic. Probably, one of the best live performances in television history. Absolutely BRILLANT!
I think that sam your're crazy i mean have u ever heard of sensetive people?I was also crying because ha has anwsome voice and is also so so so cute do u have a problem with that idiot?I love u daid archuleta and u 2 paula!!!!!!
I think Archuleta has the talent to generate a following as great as Elvis or Michael Jackson had. Seriously. This kid has a firm hold on the Hannah Montana crowd already, and he is quickly winning the hearts of adults as well. Unlike many celebrated young artists these days, Archuleta actually DOES have the goods! He is a truly gifted performer who also has that elusive "x-factor" that instantly lets people know he's a superstar. Yes, David IS the one to beat.
Simon always says that he is looking for someone with the "WOW" factor. Well, David Archuletta definitely has it. The song Imagine, is a great and memorable song by John Lennon, but David has kept this song alive. I'm sure that if John were alive today, he would have been ecstatic. When David sang this song, he connected with the audience. He made the song believable. It brought tears to my eyes.
I do agree that David Archuletta is the Idol to beat!
david rocked the house, he is our next American Idol.....
He is so amazing and charming! And absolutely adorable!! I hope he wins!!
WOW! I haven't been following American Idol lately so this is my first actually hearing this kid. All I can say is "WOW!" Beautiful voice. I hope he is going to win this year.
HE is the NEXT AMERICAN IDOL! U have my vote all the way~! UR voice brought tears to my eyes n gave me goosbumps...
6:13 completely agree! He is the next American Idol and if he gets voted off American Idol is over in my books.
Amazing. That's the only word I can come up with. He was just amazing. My husband was speachless and I was crying. This kid has it and it gives me chills to hear him sing. Even if he doesn't win Idol (which I doubt) I know he's destined for great things.
After he sang, I wanted him to keep singing. I didn't want him to stop. We need more people like him.
I think he did a very good job, I just wish he would of sped it up a little, at least sing it at the speed it is suppose to be sang... A little to slow but very good
He's amazing. I cried last night too. He has a great voice, a great smile, and a great personality.
He definitely is the one to beat..not that anyone will.. :]
he is really cute and one of the best singers ive ever heard!!
3.14 Monique, yeah, you must that Monique from Canada...just as b!tchy as Jennifer described to be...
Well Chantal, I think you are annoying too and I don't want to talk to you. You don't make any sense anyways. Go pop a few more pills and leave me alone!
2.45. I'm not talking to you, anonymous. I was talking to Monique - asking her if she knows the 12-year-old Jennifer who blogs in here....
Why is Paula Abdul so weird? Is she on something??? Drunk? What's her deal, she is totally bizarre.

12.53, Monique, you have never spoken to a 12-year-old on here whose name is Jennifer?? She usually talks about her high5 profile and Canada etc. Are you Canadian?

Chantal, you're annoying. This is a blog for talking about the article, not for making friends.
It's Michael Johns, not John. And, David has a great voice, I loved the song he performed last night. Gave me goosebumps.

I agree. =) David's voice is amazing. And Michael is a very good performer. I was surprised by David Cook last night. He might turn out to be pretty good, too. Looking forward to seeing the girls tonight!
First of all to the Bit me comment...It's (BITE ME)we know now who is the one that is not mature! Learn how to spell before you start to come down on someone!
I thought he did a great job!
Thanks for the update! Yeah, going first sucks. I didn't see lasts nights show as I said, but David seems to have by far the best vocals and John is the best preformer from what I have seen. I wish I got to watch last night! Well, I will be watching tonight.
John did pretty good. Not as good as last week, but better than most of the other guys. He had to go first, though, which isn't a good thing.
How did John do last night? You know, the guy who preformed last, last week? He was really good too at least last week but I didn't get to see the show last night. How did he do?
Danny cracks me up. He stands out to me just because of his personality. Most of the other guys don't even seem to HAVE a personality.
"Bit me"??? Now THERE'S some real maturity for you. Good Lord.

That kid with the dreds wasn't that good.
I mean they all can sing at this point but, I was bored with his performance.
