R&B singer Mario nabbed the top score of 24 out of 30 for his cha-cha on last night’s Dancing with the Stars premiere.
But mastering his moves wasn’t easy.
“Oh man, I pulled my groin!” he told Usmagazine.com backstage after last night’s show in L.A. “I was like great balls of fury!”
His partner Karina Smirnoff wouldn’t cut him any slack: “She still made me dance!” he complained.
Coming in second on last night’s show: Miami Dolphins’ Jason Taylor, who scored 22 points for his foxtrot and Chilean actor Cristian de la Fuente, who earned 21 points for his cha-cha.
Actor Steve Guttenberg scored 18 points, followed by Penn Jillette at 16 points and Adam Carolla at 15 points.
Carolla gave Us his own rating: “I would say a 6 or even a 7, but then when I go home and watch it on TiVo, I will probably give myself a 4. [But] I was having fun!”

Kristy Yamuguchi was really good. She was a natural...Priscilla Presley was good too, but she looked like she was about to do a Marie Osmond. I don't think she'll be able to handle the more strenuous dances. I MISS MAXIM....(HIS FINE SEXY A**)...But as long as Mario's on there I'm fine...

Mario is a great dancer . he is on the level of chris drown, omarion and usher. i seen him during a charity concert and he is bigger than those named above but just as good . its funny how people think automatically that because he is black and an r&b singer he automatically has an unfair advantage - funny. for all we know marlee matlin could have a dancing background. I know Mario is already a great dancer but lailah ali came from sports and did well - so who knows.

Mario did Great!! But, I think Jason was a tad bit better in the technical department. Also, for me I don't really care for Mario's partner she kind of seems arrogant and Jason's Partner comes across as a nice sweet girl. So, I am voting for Jason on this one. :)

Why do we have to be haters if we don't like someone. Why does the race card always played. If we like someone we do. Color or race does not have to be the reason why. Why do we have to be a country divided by race. We are a country of diverse relgions and race let us be united and stand, because if we are divided we will fall. So lets get off this issue and just say we like or dislike someone because of their character or personality. I do like Mario.

Good grief, people, lighten up. DWTS is for entertainment purposes only with hot male and female talent thrown in for good measure. Whether they do well or fail, they tried their best in front of millions of people and I take my hypothetical hat off to them. Let's have some fun without people using coarse language and dissing everyone. There's a war on and we at least get to do what those men and women overseas only wish they could be doing. Smile, life is good.

Mariobacker - good post until the last line. White America isn't hating on Mario because he's Latino. You don't even know who is picking on him here - it could be other Latinos! I'm guessing the people who are putting him down didn't see him dance or just don't like hip-hop.
I think being a dancer or athlete might give someone a slight edge at the beginning - because they're used to the physical discipline. But it can also not help because they are used to moving a certain way.

Y'all i haven't seen the show but from all your comments i sure can tell that Mario Lame-o doesn't understand cos i'm a hip-hop dancer myself and i've tried the cha-cha, tango, salsa and oter dance forms and from experience i can tell u dat it's way not thesame, the only advantage (if others don't possess it) is dat being a dancer of any form makes you flexible enuf to move and dats all. The rhythms differ alot and as such ur hip-hop dance experience don't count for nuts in cha-cha or fox trot or the likes.
Give him kudos gee!!

Mario killed last night. Even though he does have dance experience it is not an advantage. Mario is not a hellified dancer. This is Mario not Chris Brown, Omarion, or Usher. Ballroom is alot more techinical than regular street dancing. Plus if Mario wouldve had to much experience or had some ballroom lessons he wouldnt have been allowed on the show. Ok people. Ballroom dancing is a lot harder than it looks. Take it from someone who has been dancing for years. It is not a sissy sport. In fact it is the best way to stay fit and lose weight. It is also a great way to spend some exciting quality time with your other half. Stop putting down something you have not tried. The level of dancing that is required of the stars takes months of training, and they are expected to master the steps, proper body position, proper hold, feet positions, etc. in just weeks, and do it in front of millions of people. At age 57, I challenge all the Anonymous guys out there who were to chicken to put their names, to meet me on the dance floor. I'll mop the floor with you.

I'm sorry you were lulled. Let me explain it to you. It's a fluffy show that is amusing. No one thinks it's some sort of uplifting message show. It's not supposed to be smart or educational. The people who like it aren't being lulled, they are being amused for an hour or so. Only idiots think that something is stupid just because they personally don't like it. Just because a lot of people like it, doesn't make it stupid. No point in pretending anyone is here to discuss something highbrow on the US magazine website!

This Mario guy wants his partner and it's not for dancing! I think they all did their best and they should all get lots of votes. But it's people who call in so God only knows what will happen. I think the first one to leave will be Steve Guttenberg. Not because he didn't dance good or anything, but I think he doesn't have a big fan base.
