Nick Carter Follows in Angelina Jolie's Footsteps

Nick Carter is taking on a new role - United Nations Special Ambassador.

Carter exclusively tells Usmagazine.com: "People like Bono, Angelina Jolie, and Nicole Kidman have inspired me to put my celebrity to good use. I have the advantage of reaching multiple generations to make a difference.”

The one-time Backstreet Boy will represent the United Nations Environment Programme, the Convention on Migratory Species, and the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society for their "Year of the Dolphin" campaign, designed to raise awareness of threats to the survival of dolphins in the wild.

And lest you think the position is purely ceremonial, Nick tells Us the following: “I am really excited, but also a little nervous about this much responsibility...it is an actual job. There are responsibilities and commitments that I must make to be the voice of dolphins, whales and conservation issues, and the expectations are quite large."

We think Nick will have no problem with the new venture. After all, he's clearly already smart enough to know that if there's anything the ladies love more than the Backstreet Boys, it's do-gooders and dolphins.

you guys need to lay off nick, you have no idea what he's been through or what he has accomplished. he is in fact very mature and responsible, not to mention successful, both in his career and in his personal life. i mean, he should get all the credit in the world for bringing his family back together. so what if his parents are messed up, that's not his fault. this guy loves the ocean, he loves nature and animals and he worked his butt off to get this job and i'm sure he will do great! good luck nick, and congratultions, you deserve this!!

heyy! nick is very mature! i am sooooooo incerdibley happy for nick! i know how much he loves the ocean and loves dolphins! he would never bring dishonor to this, i read an interview with him speaking on this "great honor" that he has and how excited he is! he knows he can reach people all over because ofhis status and who he is, so at least he is using that ability for good-not bad...
