I was so sorry to hear of Charlton Hestons passing away, he was my favourite actor of altime. There are no more actors left now like him, and they do not make such good films any more like ben hur el cid, I have seen them all there is not one actor today I could easily name who would fit into the roles he played. at least there was always a good story and beautiful actress he played opposite. I say to these people who say they do not like him start comparing the weak films today and actors to the ones he made my boyfriends mum died last year of Alzhemiers disease so I know what it is like first hand. Nowadays it really has to be a good film to me to go the cinema which is not very often. Because I like him so much I changed my surname to Charlton he once came to my town my only regret is now that I missed the chance to meet him.

Legendary actor Charlton Heston died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills. He was 84.
Lydia, his wife of 64 years, was by his side.
Heston won an Oscar in 1959 for his role in Ben-Hur. He's portrayed Moses, Michelangelo and el Cid. He also became heavily involved in the National Rifle Association, serving as president from 1998 until 2003.
"Charlton Heston was seen by the world as larger than life. He was known for his chiseled jaw, broad shoulders and resonating voice, and, of course, for the roles he played," Heston's family said in a statement. "No one could ask for a fuller life than his. No man could have given more to his family, to his profession, and to his country. In his own words: 'I have lived such a wonderful life! I've lived enough for two people.'"
Although no reason of death was given, Heston revealed that he had symptoms of Alzheimer's disease in 2002.
"If Hollywood had a Mt. Rushmore, Heston's face would be on it," Michael Levine, Heston's rep of 20 years, told the Associated Press. "He was a heroic figure that I don't think exists to the same degree in Hollywood today."

He was a blowhard and a jerk. Good riddance! RIP.
I was very sad to hear of his passing. He truly was a great man. He did so many things in life and inspired a lot of people of different generations.
When his country was at war, he enlisted in the Air Force. When the advent of television took away the popularity of movies, he was there making grand historical epics that brought people back into the theater and helped save the movie industry. At a time when the law suppressed blacks and few in liberal Hollywood said anything about it, he spoke out against racism and fought with Dr. Martin Luther King for civil rights. He even joined a picket line for desegregation at one of his own movie premieres. The NRA surged in popularity after he became president in 1998. I am sorry that he won't be here when the Supreme Court delivers its decision declaring the 2nd Amendment to be an individual right as is widely expected, but I am sure he knew they would. Through all this, he was married to the same woman for 64 years.
He was a great man, and I am happy that he felt he lived two lives. He certainly did. Even Us Weekly's removal of spam and hate blogs from this thread is a testament to the respect this dignified and accomplished man commanded everywhere. He was one of a kind and will be sorely missed. Rest in peace, Charlton Heston.
I understand people's frustration that comments are posted regarding gun control. However, aside from acting he did act as president of the NRA-an organization that many are oppsosed to. As a result, people will speak out against that. Earlier comments have applauded him for his stance regarding standing up for ones rights that are guaranteed by the constitution and his support of Martin Luther king- if you applaud him for that than you should not critisize individuals speaking against gun control b/c by doing so your ignoring what he was passionate about. Agree or disagree with what is being said- but dont blast people for excercising their freedom of speech. Mr. Heston wouldn't.
Well, Charlton Heston always used to say we could have his guns when we pried them from his cold, dead hands, so I guess it's about time to start prying.
Charlton Heston is one of the last of great generation of Americans. Not surprised that in today's world, people think of him in a less than favorable way. People today seem to believe what is fed to them by a media with a fierce agenda, by a hypocritic so called movie-maker whose so called documentaries are shrouded in half truths and hearsay, politicians who speak one way and totally live and work another, etc. Charlton Heston didn't only speak about his beliefs, he lived them. He marched with 200,000 others with Dr Martin Luther King Jr. in D.C. way before it was popular in Hollywood to stand up for civil rights. He actually stood by his beliefs and did not let the wind or polls dictate them to him. I say BRAVO Mr Heston! We may be a quiet bunch, but his fans are legion.
3:31 and 9:02 -- intelligent. Nice to see on this page.
First and foremost, Charlton Heston was a great man; He will be sorely missed and well remembered by those who consider free thought and expression still to be a vital part of freedom. Here is an excerpt from his great speech on the cultural war raging across this country and other parts of the world currently. Find it and read it for yourself if you are interested in actual truth.
"What does all of this mean? It means that telling us what to think has evolved into telling us what to say, so telling us what to do can't be far behind.....
I don't care what you think about guns.... Who will guard the raw material of unfettered ideas, if not you?......
If you talk about race, it does not make you a racist. If you see distinctions between the genders, it does not make you a sexist. If you think critically about a denomination, it does not make you anti-religion. If you accept but don't celebrate homosexuality, it does not make you a homophobe.....
But what can you do? How can anyone prevail against such pervasive social subjugation?
The answer's been here all along.
I learned it 36 years ago, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., standing with Dr. Martin Luther King and two hundred thousand people.
You simply...disobey.
Peaceably, yes. Respectfully, of course. Nonviolently, absolutely.
But when told how to think or what to say or how to behave, we don't. We disobey social protocol that stifles and stigmatizes personal freedom.
I learned the awesome power of disobedience from Dr. King...
He was a great actor, definitley a legend and will be missed. My prayers are with his family especially his wife of 64 years.
last time i checked, this isn't about his stance on gun control. it's about his DEATH. what ever happened to "my prayers are with his family" or "he was a great actor"?
why don't you guys get off of your cant-live-if-people-dont-think-im-right-love-the-sound-of-my-own-enlightened-voice high horses, because you're bad people
my prayers are with his family
At least this man had lived a long and full life. Whatever his beliefs on gun control he never hurt anyone or by any accounts of mine been a drug or alcohol abuser. I say farewell Mr. Heston and thanks for the wonderful movies you leave behind!
3:31 am- I agree with you 100%, especially regarding the inclusion of the 2nd ammendment at its inception. However, the courts (with the help of skillfull attorneys)have read further into it and as a result making it legal for an average citizen to bear arms. The same logic can be used toward all of the ammendments-do you think the Founding Fathers ever imagined pornography to be protected? Despite the use of logical reasoning this cant be disputed unless we urge congress to add a new ammendment to repeal the 2nd- or at least modify it. It has been done before-the 18th was repealed in the 21st.Regrettably there is a lot of money and power held by supporters of this ammendment which would make it impossible to overturn. You didn't have to see a Michael Moore documentary to realize the devastation caused by guns. And as far as the waiting period- just because you pass this doesn't mean you are sane- it just means you were clever enough to hide your insanity from the authorities and the public. Regardless of the problems caused by guns it should be remembered that a great actor has passed and we should be examining/commenting on his contribution to the film world and not his membership to the NRA.
totally agree with you marcia... good riddance
RIP. He was a great actor. I'm a big fan of his work. PEACE!
We should all own guns because we'll all feel safer?!? If there were fewer guns in the general population, maybe we wouldn't all feel the need to own one. And for those citing the Second Amendment as a basic freedom: it was written in 1791 and had much different implications at that time than in today's world. The US was under British control previously and had fought a war to gain the right to self-governance. This addition to the Constitution had to do with the right of citizens to form standing militias and is not explicitly worded for the individual. Besides our founding fathers could not have foreseen something like an Uzi, let alone an easily concealed handgun, being out in the streets. There have been lots of amendments to the constitution. It's a living document and by no means, (to use a phrase most of you gun-toting, squirrel-shooting, bible-banging supporters of the NRA are familiar with) straight from the mouth of God.
Man was he a great actor--indeed an Oscar-winning Hollywood "original". I particularly liked him as
Moses and Ben-Hur.
10:58 and 12:07---wtf???? It's not your call to send
someone to "heaven" or "hell" anyway it is God's.
An amazing actor has passed away and his family is going through a great deal of pain. We should not critisize him for his beliefs regarding guns- it is a right guaranteed by the constitution and until that changes we can't fault anyone for embracing their rights. He is too be remembered for his body of work- and the joy his movies have given people for countless of years. But there is one post that I serious problems with- and it irritates beyond belief that US doesn't take efforts to stop this- those ridiculous dating website posts. The people that post these have shown horrible taste- saying they saw a man who just passed on a dating site. Its one thing that they pop up on every article from Brittny to probaly the "pregnant man"- but by posting on articles about Heath Ledger/Charleston Heston after they have passed shows how tactless these people are. I hope nobody in their right mind would visit thses sites- and US magazine you should do a better job of eliminating these!!
Anna, Donna and Kelly -- are all three of you mentally retarded?
I agree, Marcia! This guy was a spokesperson for the NRA. Enough said. You're not going to change their minds. Ever.
As said in the past . . . "America . . . where everyone has the right to bear arms and the right to arm bears." The statistics don't lie. More people who own guns are shot than the people who don't own guns. and on and on . . . do the research yourselves. I don't care. Intelligent people know this. The dullards never will.
LOVE HIM..GREAT LOSS FOR ALL OF US.
10:58 AM Marcia Says:
You are a MORON!
You're an idiot Marcia. I'm sure that if someone were to break into your house to hurt your family and you had the opportunity to use a gun to defend yourself, you would hypocrite. People have the right to bear arms. Please don't blame guns, blame the psychos that don't know how to use them. I agree with Anna-grow up.
to 12:08...
11:17 here, and thats the only comment i've made today. i just thought that 10:58's comment was heinously insensitive, ignorant, and just plain innapropriate.
with someone like that, you can only assume that their only education on the subject of charlton heston and guns is from michael moore's movie
GROW UP MARCIA ! HELL IS YOUR NEXT STOP
Grow up Marcia . We live in a free country. He chose to carry , his freedom to. May he rest in peace. He was a great actor , and when I met him a gracious man .
What is with all the "gun hate"? I am a 42 year old woman who owns a handgun. I took training classes with the local police and some with the NRA to know how to properly use my gun. Guns aren't evil, criminals are. RIP Mr. Heston, you were a great actor. I just watched Planet of the Apes again and I loved you in it.
I may not like the NRA much or the way they do things, but I have thoroughly enjoyed "Ben-Hur." Marvelous, well done movie. He was a great actor; sorry to see him go. RIP
hey 11:17.. who mentinoned Michael Moore? R U tolling the sites posting the same message?
wonder if anybody took that gun when he died
May he rest in peace. Amen to that. Was a genius and terrfic actor.
