Richard Gere was cleared of obscenity charges after spontaneously smooching Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty at an AIDS awareness event in India last year.

An Indian Court had issued an arrest warrant against Gere, 58, claiming he had violated the country’s public obscenity laws (the kiss "transgressed all limits of vulgarity," reports said at the time).

But a two-judge bench headed by the Chief Justice of India, KG Balakrishnan, called the charge “frivolous,” BBC News reports.

“Richard Gere is free to enter the country,” the judge said. “This is the end of the matter."

Lawyers for Gere had appealed to the court to stop the arrest warrant against the actor, who plans to visit India soon.

Gere, who apologized for offending anyone, said the kiss was "nothing.”
