Kim & Alec Case: Media Kicked Out of Courtroom

 Bruce Glikas/FilmMagic.com; Gregg DeGuire/WireImage.com Kim Basinger showed up in an L.A. court today for a hearing to determine whether her ex-husband Alec Baldwin would regain visitation rights with their 11-year-old daughter, Ireland. Because Baldwin's presence was not required, his lawyers attended on his behalf. The former spouses have been in the news recently due to a leaked voicemail message in which Baldwin, 49, called his daughter a "rude thoughtless little pig" when she failed to answer the phone for a scheduled chat. Upon hearing the message, LA County Superior Court Commissioner Maren Nelson temporarily suspended Baldwin's visitation rights. Basinger, 53, arrived at Los Angeles Superior Court shortly after 8:30 a.m., wearing a plaid jacket and sunglasses. She took a seat in the back of the courtroom and waited while other cases were heard before hers. The actress appeared agitated as Judge Nelson took the bench. She gestured and spoke in hushed tones with her publicist, who was seated by her side. Fifteen minutes later, Nelson called the case and Basinger took a seat at the counsel table with her attorneys, Neal Hersh and Judy Bogen. She swapped her sunglasses for eyeglasses, but did not stand when her case was called. Judge Nelson then addressed the courtroom: "I recognize there is significant media interest in this matter...the voicemail that came out of this hearing has been broadcast widely. I'm aware the public is interested in this case because both parties are well known actors. The issue, though, before the court is what is in the best interest of a very young, 11, child...the overriding mental health of the minor overcomes the right to public access in this case." After the speech, the media was asked to leave the hearing. During a break in the proceedings, Baldwin's attorney, Vicki Greene, made the following statement: "[Alec] is a wonderful father, he loves Ireland. He is just a great person and a great dad. I don't know if all the issues will be resolved today but I know the communication will be improved. Alec's concerns right now are to have the best relationship with his daughter." The closed door hearing wrapped up around 4:30, but neither team's attorneys gave any clue as to what transpired in the courtroom. Kim Basinger's attorney, Neal Hersh, however, did offer a brief comment: "We are very very pleased that the judge took an entire day to deal with this very important issue. And gave it a lot of thought and effort. And we are very, very pleased with the judges thoughtful decision and fully support what she did here today. That's all I have to say." In response to Jolee... Mothers don't always get the kids. I say this from experience, because both of my parents worked and when my mom decided to leave and wanted us kids. She learned the hard way that the mother doesn't always get the kids. My father got full custody of me and my brother and she had to pay him a pretty penny every month for child support. Funny thing is, that when my dad got custody was over 25 years ago and it was completely unheard of back then...

As a parent myself we all make mistakes. I seems to me that Kim is the one screwing with the child. That child will grow up to resent her from keeking her away from her father. I think it was inappropriate what Alec had said to his daughter but I don't think it was the most horrible thing the world. I have heard alot worse come from parents mouths. I think that Kim should be bleeped slap for this and let both parents have equal visitation

I think Alec is sick of dealing with his daughter's crazy mother. You realize that every time she decides to use their daughter to piss him off (ex. not letting him see her, talk to her, etc...), he has to take Kim to court to get the matter resolved. Mothers have all the rights. If your baby's mama is a bleep, then you're screwed.

Alec was too sorry to even show up for this hearing! Really shows how much he is interested in his daughter. From what I can see, HE'S NOT, or he would have been there. Her mother was! He just sent his attorney in his place. Great Father! HA.
