In what was perhaps one of the most shocking results show upsets in Idol history, 24-year-old Texan Haley scored her top 12 spot as crowd favorite Sabrina Sloan was voted out. Randy said America got that vote wrong, but to be fair, Haley did earn her top 12 spot and now has a few more chances to prove she deserves to stay.


The performer, who was previously schooled by a vocal coach, has had to develop a thick skin during the performance rounds. Simon has been especially unkind to Haley, unleashing his nastiness after Haley’s version of a Celine Dion classic. “You're 24, but you sounded 40. It’s like being at a reasonably good hotel and that's the last song of the evening," he said of her performance. She’s bonded well with the contestants thus far and more than made up for her meager first outing during her second, much-improved performance of Whitney Houston’s “Queen of the Night.”
