Each week, America's Next Top Model winner Jaslene Gonzalez, 20, had to brave crazy photo shoots with full hair and makeup, TV cameras capturing her every move 24/7, and a notoriously tough judging panel. In the end, the show’s judges, including executive producer, Tyra Banks, selected the Chicago native to take the top prize. Usmagazine.com caught up with America’s newest CoverGirl during her recent press tour in New York City.
Us: Who is the first person you called right after you won the show?
Jaslene Gonzalez: Definitely my mom. Once I told her, she told everybody.
Us: What was it like standing in front of the judging panel each week?
JG: You’re under so much pressure. You think one day you’re doing so well and then you’re going to the panel room and they critique you so harshly it puts you down. In the middle of the competition I fell off a little bit.
Us: You also auditioned for the show last season but were cut.
JG: I think it prepared me a lot more this time around.
Us: You said Miss J is your favorite judge. Who would win in a walk-off between you two?
JG: He lived for my walk - he was in love with me and I was in love with him. He’s a queen and I’m a queen, so we have so much in common.

You say Tyra "doesn't like skinny girls". Tyra never said that. All she said is that plus sized girls will get a chance. Secondly, Jaslene is not ugly. She may not look very well in this picture, but, as far as hispanics like me, she is one of the most beautiful girls in the competition. Jaslene had, overall, the best pictures in the competition, but, she didn't improve much. All in all, I would have chosen Natasha, but, Jaslene would be my second place.

I am absolutley disgusted Jaslene won. She is the UGLIEST "girl" i have ever had the unfortunate opportunity of seeing. Does anyone remember her commercial? She was speaking as if she was sitting on a bed of nails, she looked like she was in that much pain! Her face was so contorted the whole time she made me (the consumer) want to do ANYTHING but buy the product she was trying to sell. Also during the last episode she siad, "If natasha wins, I will rip all her hair out!"...talk about issues. I agree with a lot of the comments about how ironic Tyra is about being confortable in your skin and how the modeling business projects an unhealthy image to young girls, and then she picks, seriously, the skinniest girl i have ever seen. NOTE* the camera adds 10 pounds, so she must be reeeeeeeeeeeeally skinny to look that skinny on tv. I think the only reason Tyra picked Jaslene was because then she could have an "inspirational" story. Like, "Jaslene tried out the first time, and was cut. But being the determined young woman she is, she perservered and tried out again, and blew us all away." Its all about the story. Remember this is a reality tv show, NOT amodeling competition. the producers care more about ratings and money than they do the winners. Thats why they pick "winners" like jaslene. to get people talking about it, which results in more publicity for the show. Also i thought it was wierd how a girl who didnt make the top 13 last year, could win this year? How pathetic has the show become? The show always pick the people you least expect to win. THE ENTIRE last episode they were talking about haw amazing Natasha did. Then they pick Jaslene. My friends and i were wanted natasha to win. SHe was hands down the prettiest. We were like "as long as jaslene doesnt win well be happy." and then tyra screws us over lie this.

It's so sad that it's some of her own that are belittling her like this. No one has any right to call anyone a 'stick'. You don't know her like that. I'm sure you don't phone her at home. If you have such a problem with Jaslene's image, why not shut up and enter ANTM yourselves? I take offence to anyone who calls someone who may just be naturally slim unhealthy. I'm 16 and 100 lbs. And I eat plenty. I think you're all jealous pigs with nothing better to do. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and I'm sure most of the comments posted here are by adults...and it's pathetic to observe how disgusting you are to someone who has done nothing wrong but look different. You should all take a good look in the mirror before you even THINK of discussing someone else. Not all of us are overweight, vulgar and generally poor excuses as human beings like Tyra Banks. She's a disgrace to the modelling/fashion industry, not to mention black women.

Everyone needs to just be quiet about this. Do you really think that Tyra Banks would have picked her if she thought she was anorexic? If you look closer you will see that Jaselene is very small boned, and the amount of fat she has is pretty proportional and normal on her frame.

i think this is not right. everybody is promoting stuff that's not going to make girls want to become skinny and yet Tyra Banks chooses this stick model who looks very grotesque when she has her stomach showing. i followed the show very carefully and i though that renne was so much prettier and that her pictures were just as good if not better than jaslene's. i liked tyra banks but she made a really bad decision in choosing the winner.

I am kinda bummed that Jaslene won, mainly b/c she is so thin, which is something that Tyra Banks claims to try to fight against. Although when magazines published the picture of her look not-so-slim, she claimed she didn't care, and then busted her but working out to so that she could wear the same suit on TV...I was confused b/c if she didn't care, then why did she insist on losing weight before putting it on for TV?
Also, I am sorry to say that any young girl with a child should not win ANTM. Since most models are incredibly young, it promotes a reckless image...16 year olds should not have kids...unfortunetly,most of the girls that come on the show with kids had them young and while they were (and still are) unwed. Not a good image to portray. Don't get me wrong-I love Renee and thought that she had tons of potential, but I wouldn't want to see a 20 year old mother being glorified.
I am also bummed that Caridee won last season...she is a little nuts. I saw a few pics of her not to long ago in a magazine and look posessed and deranged. Melrose may not have been a favorite of everyone, but she was very good. Caridee was incredibly bitter and catty the entire season, along with most of the girls. I got a little confused as to why all of the girls hated Melrose...I thought she was portrayed as confident but moderately nice...maybe the execs edited the show to hide any wrongdoing that she did.
Isn't it weird that once these girls win, they supposedly have all these contracts and expected fame, but then no one ever sees or hears about them again? If they have Covergirl contracts, why are they never on any commercials? Or in magazines (advertising something other than ANTM)?

all i can say is I pity you. it's got to be a terrible feeling living your life harboring such anger and animosity towards the world, so much so that it causes you to live in a delusional world. I know someone whose personality is very similar to yours, and no one wants to be around that person, ever. I do hope that you can eventually overcome whatever it is that triggers you to lash out at people and say/do such hateful things because in the end, the only person you're hurting is yourself.

Well, I am 5'5" and I weigh 104. I dont have an eating disorder. I do eat a lot, most the time healthy foods, and not a lot of red meat because I have high cholesterol (hereditary). So, I cannot really gain weight, even when I try. Dont know if Jaslene is, but I am also very small boned.

I watched this season every episode and while Jaslene was not the front runner, I think she earned her title. Renee was a total biyatch the whole time and definitly deserved to go a long time ago. She DOES look old in her photos and there is nothing unique about her. And her personality made her even more ugly (if its possible.) While Jaslene looks wya different in person, she has absolutly the most gorgeous photos. It's funny how that is. Natasha just didn't fit with the image and Jaslene did. As for her body, yeah, she is waaayyy to skinny. But that's that nature of the business as well. Sad, but true. And Tyra DID have 2 other girls on there who were big boned. They could've made it farther, but both of them gave up early and it showed in their photos. Gotta remember people, they go through ALL of the photos to decide. They have to look at who did best during different shoots etc. Jaslene will have a greta career regardless and I wish her the best.

To Skinny and Proud - 125 pounds at 5'9" doesn't sound so bad. Don't worry about it. I'm in a similar position. If you are eating enough (and it sounds like you are!) and you're still not gaining, then you're most likely very healthy despite having to carry the "underweight" label.
But I know that it is not always easy. It's so annoying that even the smallest possible sizes at all the clothing stores are STILL too big in the waist! And people's comments can be hurtful. Just try to ignore them. Sometimes they come from plain thoughtlessness, because it's not really politically incorrect to make fun of skinny people. And sometimes it comes from a touch of jealousy. Not that being underweight is enviable, but I think the idea of eating like 10 pigs and staying so skinny sounds good to a lot of people.

First of all to all you people pointing finghgers to skinny people and accusing them of having eating disorders is because you have nothing better to do. I am 5'9 and 125 and spent the last 10 years of my life trying to gain weight. Its impossible. i eat all day. i eat complete crap all the time and nothing. i eat before bed a when i get up at my desk all day no weight. You people should mind your own business. I have been told by random people for years that i apprenatly have an eating disorder. News to me. People dont go arouind accusing fat people of being over eaters so leave us skinny people alone.Good for her shes getting to do what she wants to do. Your all just jealous because clothes were made for people like us
