I read someone's comment about naturally stick thin girls never knowing the problems of naturally overweight girls. That is completely erroneous. My daughter is 5'10" and wears a (baggy) size 0. She eats like a normal teenager but can't gain weight. She comes home from school crying because of the comments people make about her. Our society is much more accepting of fat girls. Fat is en vogue these days. We have a much bigger epidemic of obesity than we do anorexia, and I'd like to see people become as outraged over fat as they do over slenderness.

On last night's premiere of America's Next Top Model, Tyra and the J's chose Sarah to be this season's "plus-sized" girl. But to the ANTM panel (and Us) Sara looks more "real-sized" than anything else!

There must be some mistake. That CAN NOT be a picture of a plus-size model. If she's considered plus size, I guess I should join a circus!!
Shame on you, Tyra, I thought you were on the side of reality and normalcy. I can only imagine how many young girls who hear you label this beautiful girl as PLUS size are starting their anorexia fasts today!
The modeling industry is SUPER COMPETITIVE it is also very judgmental. In the modeling and fashion world she is classified as "Plus-Size" but in the "real" world she is skinny. The average size for a woman is 13 but its different in the modeling world.

Wow, someone needs to seriously get over themselves. As if you couldn't be argued to be another insecure thin apologist, not "stating facts" but rather being bitter that fuller-sized women(which believe it or not, can also be "natural") might finally be beginning to gain some respect. Don't worry though, as this never will quite achieve half the vast media preference for the stick thin, nor will "naturally" stick thin women ever experience half the degradation of those a few pounds over the thin quo...so feel free to keep your self-absorbed hysterics in check.
Now with regards to the TOPIC, if the woman in the picture is plus-sized, then I'm the Queen of England. Tyra Banks is one the world's biggest hypocrites..end of story.
If this girl is plus-size, then my size 10 body must be obese! I've lost some respect for Tyra Banks who made such a big deal on her talk show about "loving your body" and telling people to kiss her "big fat ass." She should practice what she preaches and not change her tune depending on what audience is watching which one of her shows. She should be especially careful what she says on Top Model, which many young women watch. And people wonder why there is an epidmeic of eating disorders among young Amreican women...
i am 5'11" w/o shoes and am a size 10 thru 13 in pants, depending on store, obviously. i've been told by modeling agencies to try out for modeling, plus-size that is. i am athletically built and therefore hold more pounds, unfortunately. im trying to lose weight it's just difficult, as all us women know. i love watching america's next top model but if you've studied the girl closer in the episodes, she is actually slightly thicker than she is in this picture. remember, guys that watch ANTM, the pictures are ALL airbrushed! they make people look thinner although the girls are all pretty thin. im rooting for her. she is real-sized, true, but they will never, in my opinion, have a "plus-sized, or real-sized" girl win america's next top model. trust me, i want her to win for all the girls that aren't stick thin, i just don't think it will happen because it's reality tv.
According to every store in the mall, plus size starts at size 14. On the fattest day of this girls life she might have been a size 6. There is no way she is plus size. The whole industry needs to change and models need to be healthy sized...whatever that means. Besides, I don't think anything looks good on those skin and bones models.

I do agree with you that the statement "real women have curves" is the most ridiculous phrase ever. It's what causes major self esteem issues among naturally thin girls. That's why breast implants are so popular! And that's a HORRIBLE thing to encourage. If you're thin, you're still real ok? If force feeding yourself crap is the only way to gain weight because you're naturally thin, please don't. Being healthy is different for everyone. And curves CERTAINLY don't determine someone's worth. Scarlett Jo is praised for her curves as if she did something wonderful to achieve them. It's absurd.
They had a hard time with her because they admitted she is normal sized. But there isn't a place for that in the fashion world. She's not model sized (not a bad thing, but she's not) and she's not plus sized. But they liked her and didn't know what to do with her. They were even like "Who's to say we can't have a normal sized girl?" It's just the nature of the industry that is the issue.
she is not fat and anyone who thinks she is , is sooo stupid!!! she's fine the way she is!
She looks healthy, which is a lot more than I can say for alot of people on that show.
Im 5'10 and im a size 6...I used to model and i was a size 4 or a little less at that time. After i did a couple shoots my agent told me i could gain ten lbs and then become a "plus-size model" or I could loose more weight. I walked out of the office that day and never looked back. This girl by no means is a plus-size model. There is absolutly nothing wrong w plus size modeling. But for someone else to distinguish if your a "plus-size model" or not is wrong. Noone should ever let anyone tell you what you are.
what surprises me is the fact that many movie stars are larger than her or her size, and they are never called "plus sized." look at Beyonce, JLo, Jessica Simpson,Scarlett Johannson and Jessica Biel- all of these woman have curves and aren't called fat because they aren't- they are beautiful. So if those woman are curvy and clearly not "plus sized," then maybe more models need to jump on the "plus size boat," because that model isn't fat or plus sized, but in comparison to the runway models, she is. what happened to Tyra and other supermodels claiming that they wanted to help eatting disordered women? by having a gorgeous model like her called "plus sized," that just fosters damaging behaviors in females. no one wants to be called plus sized. they should be calling her healthy size. i hope she wins!
Yes in the modeling world she is plus sized in real life she is not

Nobody said fat was attractive- and you can be thin with curves. But to be 5'6" and 110lbs is gross- So you think that men would rather look at stick thin women than someone with curves. FYI- CURVES does not always equal fat! There is a huge gray area, I am talking about the women who can shop in the little girls department of a store!
You guys are just excusing the fact that you might be overweight. I am a thin woman and sick and tired of people saying “real woman have curves”, “men loves handles”... This is just a way to justify the fact that some of you need to lose a few pounds, not for fashion but for medical issues.
I would never call someone “FAT” “unhealthy looking” or say “men don’t like fat girls”. But it is so easy for a person who carries extra pounds to put down thinner people (“she is meat and bones”, “skinny b!tch”,” she looks like a boy”, “she has the body of a 12 years old”… Sorry, I am just stating facts…
I think this girl looks great! I am between a size 8 and 10 at 5'6". My husband loves the fact that I am not a walking stick. What man wants to look at and be with a woman that has the same figure as a 9yr old little girl. Women have or should have curves, it's what makes us beautiful. I could stand to loose a few pounds, the anorexic death look is just not cool!
I wouldn't consider her plus-sized in the real world, but in the modeling world, yes she is plus sized. I think she has a great body. Meat on the bones is beautiful, not skinny anorexic (sp?) type.
This is the problem with society today...
ok, i didn't watch the show...does anyone know how tall she is or what her size actually is?? she looks healthy and attractive to me!

Well You're a pleasant little thing aren't ya?
I think all of you are absolutly ridiculous!!!! I have never posted a comment ever and I read this daily. You have nothing better to do and for the chick that said a size 4 is fat under 5'10 I don't know who you think you are. You all are pathetic!!!!
Could anyone really be surprised that a woman who appears to be not larger than a size 6 is considered plus size in the modeling world?
My sister had a coupon for a free pair of panties at Victoria's Secret. She went in the store and walked out with nothing, but her medically diagnosed UNDERWEIGHT 10 year old daughter found a pair of panties that fit her. They were a size small. That's not even the smallest size they carry, but they were out in that style. This is VS which sells to adults carrying underwear that fits a 10 year old girl.
Then there is the story out of Australia of that 12 year old girl, Maddison Gabriel, who won a runway contest modeling adult clothes.
Anyone over a size 10 is considered plus-size. Mainly because designers only carry sizes for the runway in 0,2,4. I don't think it's an insult though. I'm a 14 and I love "plus-size modeling."
I am back b-tches. People are calling me out, well here I am. I am not a POSER or a TROLL, so WTF are you people saying I would pretend I am that loser Jen1, or that S-ut Wicked, or that Moron MCET? Get a Life!!!!!
Thanks Maya for your input, now STFU, seriously. Are you a size 0, nope, sounds more like a size 20. Way-Way too many curves, or indentations, crevices, cottage cheese...
This girl has a great figure. However, in the fashion world, she would be asked to lose weight and she will not be able to work most runways, which still favor the thin girls who are built like 12 year old boys. I could see her mainly being able to work in lingerie and swimsuit modeling--where curves are usually more valued. She might be able to do some beauty ads, but she will lose a lot of work in many fashion venues. It is all in where she decides to work. I think it is very unfortunate that she would be snubbed many places, because she looks great to me.
if you watched the show, tyra said several times this girl was "too small" to be considered plus-size, and in fact, the panel gave her the name "real-size model" - which tyra then also said, "like me!"
see, it's all okay!!!!
I don't think she is "Plus" size but I think she is the normal girl on the street size. And I think that is Great! Fashion should be shown on the "normal size" because that is who buys the clothes. Let the younger girls know it is ok to have some meat on thier bones.
"...Sarah to be this season's 'plus-sized' girl."
LOL. You've got to be kidding me. Plus-sized compared to who? Keira Knightly?
What about the "minus-sized" girls out there? Let's start using that terminology for a change.
