The race for the Oscars is officially on!

The Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning, with Atonement leading the pack.

Nominated for Best Motion Picture, Drama: Atonement, American Gangster, The Great Debaters, No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood, Michael Clayton, and Eastern Promises.

Nominated for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy: Hairspray, Sweeney Todd, Juno, Charlie Wilson's War, and Across the Universe.

Angelina Jolie – who has won three Globes in the past – was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for her portrayal of Mariane Pearl in A Mighty Heart. Also nominated for Best Actress in a Drama: Keira Knightley for Atonement, Jodie Foster for The Brave One, Cate Blanchett for Elizabeth: The Golden Age, and Julie Christie for Away From Her.

Past Globe winners George Clooney and Denzel Washington were nominated for Best Actor in a Drama for Michael Clayton and American Gangster, respectively. Also nominated were Daniel Day-Lewis for There Will Be Blood, James McAvoy for Atonement, and Viggo Mortensen for Eastern Promises.

Johnny Depp was nominated for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for Sweeney Todd. He recently said of director Tim Burton, "My life is my life because of Tim. Definitely." Also nominated: Ryan Gosling for Lars and the Real Girl, Tom Hanks for Charlie Wilson's War, Philip Seymour Hoffman for The Savages and John C. Reilly for Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.

For Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, Amy Adams of Enchanted will vie against Nikki Blonsky for Hairspray, Helena Bonham Carter for Sweeney Todd, Ellen Page for Juno, and Marion Cotillard for La Vie En Rose.

Julia Roberts was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for Charlie Wilson's War. The three-time Globe winner will compete against Cate Blanchett for I'm Not There, Saoirse Ronan for Atonement, Amy Ryan for Gone Baby Gone, and Tilda Swinton for Michael Clayton.

Casey Affleck received a nod for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for The Assassination of Jesse James. Also nominated in that category: John Travolta for Hairspray, Javier Bardem for No Country for Old Men, Philip Seymour Hoffman for Charlie Wilson's War, and Tom Wilkinson for Michael Clayton.

Director Steven Speilberg will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award.

The Globes are traditionally viewed as a bellwether for the Academy Awards. The winners are awarded on January 13, nine days before Oscar nominations are announced.
