Anne Hathaway's Ex-Boyfriend Spends Birthday Behind Bars

 Dimitrios Kambouris/WireImage.com So much for a happy birthday. Anne Hathaway's embattled ex Raffaello Follieri spent his 30th birthday behind bars, according to two New York City papers. Following his hospital release Wednesday, Follieri — who had suffered an anxiety attack after his bail hearing Tuesday — was taken to the Metropolitan Correctional Center, as he was unable to pay his $21 million bail. (Usmagazine.com confirmed that he arrived at 12:51 a.m.) The New York Post reports that the Italian businessman — who is accused of trying to cheat investors out of $6 million — had planned to jet to his native Italy for a birthday bash with pals Saturday at Villa Verde restaurant on the island of Capri. "He wasn't sure whether Anne Hathaway was going to come," a pal told New York's Daily News. An insider told the paper that she still has "boxes of her stuff at his apartment." Their beloved green-eyed chocolate Labrador, Esmerelda, had been staying at his NYC apartment as she promoted Get Smart, according to the paper. Hathaway, 25 — who has yet to comment on the situation — was photographed in Mexico City Wednesday at a premiere for her spy comedy Get Smart. A source told Usmagazine.com that she split with Follieri after four years because "all the shady stuff was too much." They had been dating for 4 years. That's a long time to be deceived by someone you love. I hope she will be able to trust the person she is with in a future relationship, because I would imagine she's going to have some deep emotional scars.

You reap what you sow, con man. How does it feel? Not nearly bad enough for what you put a lot of trusting people through, your investors, your family, your girlfriend. You are a parasite. Anne wouldn't have known anything. These con men always have a story or explanation. Not being a business woman, she wouldn't know how to evaluate anything he told her. They can seem so certain about what they are saying, you just assume they know what they are talking about, that they wouldn't say what they are saying without good reasons, even if you can't understand it all.

Just because he spent a lot of money on her doesn't mean she should have been skeptical. She probably just assumed he was a successful business man and never really got in-depth in his business affairs.

I love Anne Hathaway, but I just worry that she may be somehow tangled up in this mess. Then again, he may have lied to her and hid everything from her, but she had to have known something about his lies. How can he have hid EVERYTHING from her completely? Surely, she must have heard something???

I think Anne is great. But reports have stated that her boyfriend did spend a lot of the money on her. I think it is only fitting she help him to be bailed out. Rumor has it that she maybe investigated as well. Well good luck to the both of you!

She must feel so hurt, betrayed, and humiliated. If he was able to pull all this off with his investors, imagine the lies he told her. She strikes me as a bright girl, so maybe she chose to ignore her intuition because she loved him. He is right where he belongs and it looks like he'll be spending many more birthdays behind bars. Pobrecito! I hope she gets the dog, Esmeralda!
