Betty White: "Sophia Will Always Be With Us"

 Jim Smeal/WireImage.com Bea Arthur has released a statement to Usmagzine.com after the death of her Golden Girls co-star Estelle Getty: "Our mother-daughter relationship was one of the greatest comic duos ever, and I will miss her," Arthur said. Getty — who played Arthur's sarcastic mother Sophia on the hit NBC sitcom — won an Emmy in 1988 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Saddened by the news, Betty White (who played the naïve Rose) told Us, "The only comfort at this moment is that although Estelle has moved on, Sophia will always be with us." Getty, who suffered from Lewy Body Dementia, a progressive brain disease, died at about 5:35 a.m. Pacific Time Tuesday. "Estelle's legacy will live on and on through the comedy and laughter she gave to us all, which will forever keep us laughing out loud," her caregiver said in a message on her Web site. R.I.P. Bea Auther! Estelle and Bea are back togeather once again. 2 out of 4 aur gone but no matter what happends none of the fab four will ever be forgotton! There will never be another show as good as the golden girls! I own all 7 season on dvd. DO YOU?

sunday is my golden girl days. it is my favourite day, just sit in my pjs, crisps in one hand, coke in the other and the golden girls provide the entainment. just bliss. i never get tired of watching my dvds of my favourite programme, and even though estelle has left us, it doesnt take away from the joy of watching the show. she is still with us everytime we turn on the golden girls. even my husband who always hated watching them (even though i know he was lying), cant wait to secretly watch over his sunday paper. yes marty! god bless.

i cried alot yesterday thinking on how much estelle will be missed but knowing she is in a better place and happy makes me feel a little better.the golden girls is one of the best shows ever i love all the women on it.

Picture this Sicily 1936, a young peasant girl, a goat, a mule, and two Mafia bosses, one thinking he could buy her affections by giving her a goat, the other thinking he could have her for his mule, from the one she got his goat real good and he never saw his goat again, for the other she got the mule and he never got to see her ass. The meaning of this for Dorothy, Rose, and Blanch is clear there will never be another Sophia ever, it was Estelle’s role from day one, and we will always love Sophia and the actress that made her a real person. Bless them all for showing us that those in their golden years have the Golden Girls to thank for showing the world we still have our golden humor till the end. God loves comedy he has taken the best from us.

I watched Golden Girls regularly when I was little, and every once in a while, I still watch it on Lifetime. They were awesome ladies, and its sad that 'Sophia' has passed away. Apparently, she suffered with the disease for a long time.

Sadly, many of us may be living our golden years with GOLDEN roommates. Millions of us have already lost our homes, our jobs, our cars, and what little money we had in the bank that was taken over by FBI agents. I have a deep and abiding wish that most of us can find golden roommates as wonderful as the Golden Girls. We will miss you, Estelle/Sophia. Darlin', thanks for all of the wonderful laughs and good times. And of course I still miss Blanche, Dorothy, and Rose, too. If I have to live my golden years with roommates like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, I'd rather live my golden years at Shady Pines.

As I wipe the tears from my eyes I'm still trying to figure out how to say goodbye... after watching the Girls since the 80's and owning all the DVD's... I use to watch them every evening at dinner time on Lifetime... and then Lifetime changed the schedule so ever since then I watch one of the dvd's each evening at dinner time 7 days/week... also sometimes at bedtime and even more on the weekends. I have most of the dvd's memorized yet I still can't seem to get enough... I'm sure that will sound weird to some people but I just don't know how to explain it. We've all known Estelle has been in bad health for many years now... but at the same time I just could not let go of the hope that some day she would get better and that maybe one day my dream would come true that all 4 Golden Girls who I love equally would be able to do one last reunion show for us. For many years now I've been dreading the day that we would lose one of our Golden Girls... and now that it has happened I have to say that I still didn't think the pain would hurt this much... ---pausing to dry my eyes, I can hardly see the keyboard--- the pain I feel in my chest is almost unbearable and I've never felt this hurt or cried this hard for someone I've never met in person and didn't even know personally... and what's worse is that we're going to have to go thru this pain 3 more times when God takes away the last 3 Golden Girls from us. I never had a chance to thank Estelle for all the laughs and to say But I'm taking this opportunity to tell the other 3... I Love You Bea Thank You all for the many years of laughter... you've made life much more enjoyable! Rest in Peace our dearest Estelle... you'll be deeply missed.
