Blake Lewis, the beat-boxing runner-up to Jordin Sparks on the sixth season of American Idol has been signed to 19 Recordings/Arista Records. He is already recording an album with producers from JR Rotem to Sean Kingston, due to be released at the end of the year.

Clive Davis says of Lewis, "Blake has a strong music sensibility and knows who he is and what his music should represent. His collaborators are all knocked out by him."

Lewis, who has already experienced chart success with two of his covers from Idol, is working on the album while touring with his fellow show finalists. "I love performing, so spending the summer on the road has been a great experience," Lewis says in a statement. "But I'm also enjoying my time in the studio and I'm very excited about recording my debut album. I'm thrilled to be working with 19 Recordings and ARISTA Records"

Idol creator Simon Fuller calls Lewis "one of the most unique contestants I've ever seen." Despite being different, hopefully Lewis can follow in the footsteps of past Idol successes like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.
