Actually, you would refer to a diction to increase your diction. Diction is another word for vocabulary. If you seek to improve your grammar, it would be linguistics to which you'd turn. Perhaps a brief perusal through Strunk's Classics of Style, or Chicago's Manual of Style.

I fail to see why knowledge of derivatives, or any other method of calculus would be a marked indicator of intelligence. Intelligence is not limited to mathematics alone. There were quite a few highly intelligent people who simply did not master topography. (To spare you the googling: topology is a graduate level math course, and quite challenging.) I would consider Tagore, a Nobel laureate in literature to be of superior intelligence. Certainly his mastery of language is beyond most men, however, would he know what a derivative is? The knowledge of mankind has far surpassed the capabilities of any one individual. Any attempt to gain a generalized knowledge of all branches of study will fail. Would I consider you less intelligent if you didn't understand general relativity? How about commercial law? Organic chemistry? When does it stop? Where is that line in the sand that allows intellectual snobs to say, "Ah, but you failed to grasp Theorem X, therefore you are beneath me." Does someone of less intelligence have any less value? Any less right to express their opinion without being belittled?

I'm all for proper grammar, but "stupider" resides in a grey area. That's not one to get bent out of shape over. Affect vs. effect is, on the other hand.

Some dictionaries recognize it some don't. For some Webster's is the be all, end all and it doesn't. Whatever the case, it's an non-standard, awkward word and shouldn't be used.
