FACEBOOKI am narcoleptic so I know something about provigil. It made me a little erratic, but not high at all. It's true this girl has issues, but don't make more out of this provigil thing than what it is. And, by the way, provigil didn't exist while Elvis was alive. So there's no basis for comparison there.

Photographers snapped a package of Provigil, a prescription drug used to treat excessive daytime sleepiness (and narcolepsy), in Britney Spears' open purse as she made her way to her first co-parenting class with Kevin Federline Wednesday at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
“Unlike a traditional stimulant with side effects such as hyperactivity and inattentiveness, the primary effect of this medication is only to help keep you from falling asleep,” Dr. Mark Milstein, a New York neurologist, tells Usmagazine.com. “Somebody who is living a celebrity lifestyle, who frequently has to be up very early one day and then very late the next, could develop very disordered sleep patterns”
Provigil cannot be abused as a drug, the doctor says. Spears is currently under court order to take two random drug tests per week.
“This medication won’t give you a ‘high,’ like a stimulant would,” Dr. Milstein adds.

I have been taking Provigil for about 5 months now to help me while coming down off of a bad addiction to amphetamines and cocaine. It is prescribed "off-label" for this sort of thing a lot, so I suppose that is why Britney takes it. It is expensive stuff. 7 200mg pills costs over $80 at Riteaide if you don't have insurance. Ouch. Britney can afford it though, I am sure. ;) God bless her in getting through this rough time in her life. I feel for her, she must be going through hell...Love you Britney! All the best.

You idiots. Provigil works differently for everyone, so just because one person has a "twitchy mouth" doesnt mean the next one will have the same symptoms. This drug doesn't get you high. Most of all its meant to stimulate the receptors in your brain that react to meth compounds; basically, it will keep you awake and thus maybe promote a sense of well being.
Trust me. And snorting it does nothing, as it does not affect the blood brain barrier any faster nor differently intranasaly. So mixing it up with your coke is pretty useless. And dumb. Don't taint your coke. Keep in mind that you are snorting various starches and "fillers" that make the pill, well a pill. No nose party there.
Also, this drug is not a short term treatment, as it is supposed to build up in your body over time to reach peak effectiveness.
Sorry to burst your dumb thought bubbles.

I'm a diagnosed narcoleptic and have been using Provigil (200 mg in morning) for a while, along with Wellbutrin. On some days I have a lot of energy, some days I don't.
You don't get a high from it. It just helps keep me awake during the day when I would normally want to fall asleep at any time. These aren't like amphetamines/speed/etc.
The only reaction I've had from it was combining it and a few alcoholic drinks after not eating much. I was fine most of the night, and then I suddenly passed out and in the morning couldn't remember half of the night.
Other than that, no side effects. Caffeine has more side effects than this. And it's not addictive. Although in my case, I feel the need to use it in order to stay awake throughout the day.

Hey this may have something to do with it "Modafinil also known as Provigil and Aletec improves memory, enhances wakefulness, concentration and vigilance, relieves boredom but its pharmacological profile is considerably different from its better known physcho stimulant cousins like amphetamines, Ritalin or coke. Modafinil is much less likely to cause jitteriness, anxiety, or increased heart rate like other more common stimulants. It does not produce the ‘rush’ or the highs and lows of amphetamines. The normal half-life of modafinil is up to 15 hours.

@anonymous-- no, the side effects are what makes your mouth twitch like crazy, craving 10 thousand cigarettes, and makes you lay in bed swallowing for yours as you try to get to sleep.
The good part is what's in the prescription drugs. I'm so glad I was a generation ahead of that-- my friends and I would have been trouble.

oh, who cares. you can buy nodoz and a ton of other anti-sleeping pills right off the shelf. hell, just drink a few coffees or mt. dews. same effect. if you over-do it, it can be fatal. but you can't get high off of them....

The FDA slapped a new warning on Provigil, a drug for narcolepsy and other sleeping disorders made by Cephalon. The agency warned doctors of sensitivity reactions--including rare but potentially deadly Stevens-Johnson syndrome--and of psychiatric side effects like hallucination and suicidal thoughts.
Provigil is also approved for use against drowsiness in shift worker--and it's been used off-label by truckers, med students and other types who want to stay awake all night, or even two to three days at a time. One of its selling points? Few side effects.
