Britney’s Hit And Run Charges Dismissed
Thursday October 25, 2007

A misdemeanor hit and run charge against Britney Spears was dismissed at a hearing in Van Nuys, California, Thursday.

Spears, 25, also pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor count of driving without a valid California license.

Spears — who did not attend the hearing — entered the plea through her attorney, Michael Flanagan.

In August, Spears crashed her car into a 1999 Mercedes-Benz station wagon, slightly damaging it, in a private Studio City, California, parking lot. Usmagazine.com first reported that Spears intended to settle with the victim, Kim Robard-Rifkin, 59, a nurse who learned about the incident after it was captured on camera by paparazzi.

In light of the settlement, the hit-and-run charge was dropped.

Spears may not be so lucky regarding the license issue.

A source close to case had told Us that Flanagan, Spears’ attorney, planned to present documents proving Spears now has a valid license in hopes of reducing the misdemeanor count to a traffic citation. But the L.A. City Attorney — who insists just because Spears has now obtained a license does not excuse the fact that she drove without it — wants to slap the singer with a 12-month probation term and fine.

She is due back in court on the matter November 26.

Flanagan tells Us his client is being held to a higher standard than an ordinary person.

"I just need a little more time to figure out does the prosecution have the right to treat a person this way especially when they have done everything they could to right the situation," he tells Us.

Spears is due back in court tomorrow, when she and ex-husband Kevin Federline are expected to appear in front of Judge Scott M. Gordon about their custody arrangements.
