After a reportedly intoxicated Britney Spears was rushed to L.A.'s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Thursday, the singer was designated a "special needs" patient," meaning "they have either overdosed or tried to commit suicide," a hospital source tells Usmagazine.com.

"So we go stay with these patients and monitor them constantly," the source adds. "We watch them so they don't hurt themselves and watch the people who come visit them to make sure they don't pass anything to them."

However, the source said when they got the call to monitor Spears, "none of us wanted to go sit with her".

She will be on lockdown for 72 hours, a source tells Us.

LAPD Officer Jason Lee told City News Service that Spears appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance after she was taken to the hospital on a gurney following a nearly three-hour custody standoff involving her young sons. No injuries were reported.
