A lawyer for Britney Spears argued in L.A. court Monday that the singer's ex Kevin Federline should pay his own legal fees.
The court had previously ruled that Spears, 27, has to pay Federline's counsel Mark Vincent Kaplan "reasonable" attorney's fees.
But her attorney Stacy Phillips told a Los Angeles court commissioner that the singer currently pays Kaplan $500,000 when he is only entitled to $150,000 to $175,000.
Federline, 29, Phillips said, should foot the bill. She mentioned how the rapper once tipped $2,000 on a $365 bill while out dining.
"If he is willing to tip someone $2,000, then he should be willing to pay the lawyer bills," Phillips said. "Mr. Federline needs to take responsibility for the very diligent work they do on his behalf."
Kaplan, meanwhile, argued that he is worth the price due to the complicated nature of the custody case.
"Our fees for the experience and expertise for the practice level are far under market for the package you get when you hire me," he said. "This is not a simple custody case."
The court commissioner requested that Spears be given a temporary debit or credit card so she "can have spending money or freedom of choice of how she wants to enjoy herself." She will be alloted $1500 per week. Spears' father Jamie was also granted his request to lease a car.
Both Federline and Spears' father (and co-conservator) Jamie — who went golfing together over the weekend — were present for the hearing.
"Mr. Federline answered two or three questions very cryptically and Jamie Spears was a little more elaborate," court spokesperson Allan Parachini said in a statement.
"The judge has taken the fees arguments under consideration."

Kevin should pay his own lawyer! He's took enough of Britney's money already! Kevin is a low life that married Britney for her money and to get his so-called singing going, but he sucks! He don't deserve anything from Britney and he only wants the kids to make him look like a "good daddy", their nanny has them all the time. Kevin is a GOLD DIGGER!!!
Also Britney needs control over her own money, SHE earned it and busted her tail end to get it! Her dad shouldn't even be spending any of her money. If anyone had to get control of her finances why wasn't it a court appointed lawyer? Why did it have to be someone in her family that would spend her money for them selves?
She deserves to get her kids back and get rid of her gold digger x-husband! Kevin needs to leave her with what he had when he found her...WITH NOTHING!!! She only has to pay him cause she is a celebrity and has money. If it was any normal person going through the same thing the man wouldn't get anything, and he would have to pay her.
Even if she does have to pay child support while he has the kids, he shouldn't have control over the kids money or even be able to get his hands on it. He needs to get a job and earn his own money and leave Britney's alone! He's a GOLD Digger looking to get a free ride off Britney's money.

britney earned that money, and the only people who should lay claim to her wealth are her kids and herself. if a conservator should be appointed during this period in brit's life it should be a family court magistrate; NOT her own dysfunctional 'rents.
as for "k-fed," caring for his kids isn't a JOB it's his RESPONSIBILITY as their father...brit shouldn't be his cash-cow (no pun intended)...
i agree with some who mentioned here that brit's a slave...true she's well compensated, but what a sh*t life!
should she ever regain custody of her boys, i pray she'd move to iceland or some other such remote place.

In my opinion... His behavior was very much a part of what contributed to hers. He's pathetic & nothing short of a gold digger, He lacks responsibility, self-respect, moral values & dignity.
All across America, there are women who cant even afford to take their ex's to court, and when they manage to, they still have to fight to collect the amount of child support ordered through court, his lawyer isnt so concerned about that, now his he??!! Some manage to get medical insurance ordered, but they sure as heck dont get their "legal" fee's reimbursed!
If I were her, I'd give every dime I had to charity, and make HIM spend HIS money taking me to court for support, betcha he wouldnt be dragging her into court everytime she blinked an eye, matter of fact... we'd see a REAL QUICK "change of custody" of those boys then!
He was and still is NOBODY he's a "wanna-be" and once he found his GOLD MINE he decided to settle for being a PAN HANDLING, MONEY HUNGRY, GOLD DIGGER! NO CLASS whatsoever!

It would be interesting to know just how much britney's attorney is charging HER...I don't get how that attorney went from him tipping someone 2000 dollars to they can pay their own attorney fees because of that one tipping instance. 1: Kevin deserves child support and that is it! Should she pay 500k in legal bills on his behalf HE11 NO! Especially if he has a business credit card Shar is using as her way of child support but yet he isn't really "paying" anything to her and yet he is spending $365 on meals not to even mention 2k on tips. I spend less than 365 on groceries for 2 weeks. I couldn't imagine spending that much money on a meal if I barely worked and have no "real" income!
2: I still say after all the income Brit brought into her family's life her father should not get squat from her. Besides let me go at this another angle wasn't he a DRUNK as she was growing up... not a healthy enviroment for a child. Another angle on this "daddy gave up his life to take care of his mentally ill child". Isn't mental illness hereditary? And wasn't this family AWARE that these mental illnesses run in that family but never took the steps to ensure that Brit recieved proper help BEFORE the situation got out of control like maybe 5-years-ago when she started sliding and was still under Mommy and Daddy's thumb?

The money her dad gets it to pay his bills because everytime he would go to work she would call him home saying she needed him so he took time away from his catering business. And the lease is her black SUV her guards drive her in not for his personal use, he has to have permission to enter into a contract with her money.
With that being said, she needs to straighten up so she can control her own finances.
