Gwen Stefani was born in Anaheim, Calif., in 1969. Growing up on the West Coast, she attended California State University, Fullerton.
Before becoming a solo artist, Stefani was lead singer for the band No Doubt. Stefani's seven-year relationship and emotional breakup with bassist Tony Kanal provided inspiration for hit songs on their third album, Tragic Kingdom, which sold over 15 million copies internationally.
Stefani released her much-anticipated album in 2004, Love. Angel. Music. Baby., which included the popular singles "Rich Girl" and "Hollaback Girl." In 2007, Stefani released The Sweet Escape, but it was universally panned by critics.
In 2009, No Doubt embarked on a reunion concert tour and announced they are recording a new album together.
Stefani has been married to Gavin Rossdale, the lead singer of the rock band Bush, since 2002. They met in 1995 and their son, Kingston, was born in 2006. The couple's second son, Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale, was born in August 2008. Third son Apollo came along six years later.
