Born in Toledo, Ohio, actress Katie Holmes got her start in 1997 after being cast in Ang Lee's The Ice Storm. In 1998, she earned a leading role on the teen drama Dawson's Creek by auditioning via videotape from her basement.
During the six-year series run, she acted in films of varying success, including Go, Wonder Boys and a famous breast-baring role in The Gift. In 2005, Holmes was featured in two hit films: Batman Begins and Thank You For Smoking.
The actress is now best known for her highly publicized marriage to actor and Scientologist Tom Cruise, which began in 2005. The duo wed in Italy in November 2006, and Holmes gave birth to the couple’s daughter Suri in April 2006.
