About
Laura Dern was born in 1967 in Los Angeles, Calif. She made her film debut in her mother Diana Ladd’s film White Lightning. Dern gained critical acclaim for roles in Blue Velvet, Jurassic Park, and the 1991 film Rambling Rose, for which she and her mother became the first mother and daughter to be nominated for an Academy Award for acting in the same film.
Known as an outspoken activist and supporter of many charitable causes, she married musician Ben Harper in 2005.
Though Dern and Harper split in 2013, they remain dedicated to parenting their two children, son Ellery and daughter Jaya.
