About

Born in Jerusalem on June 9, 1981, to parents Shelly and Avner Hershlag, Natalie Portman began her acting career as the protégée of a hitman in the 1994 action film Léon: The Professional when she was just 12 years old. She gained international recognition as Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

Portman went on to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role of Nina Sayers in Darren Aronofsky’s 2010 psychological thriller, Black Swan. The Harvard alum also received a Critics’ Choice Award for her portrayal of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in the 2016 biopic Jackie and a Golden Globe Award for 2004’s Closer. Her other notable films include V for Vendetta, The Other Boleyn Girl, and Marvel’s Thor series.

The actress and activist married dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied, whom she met while filming Black Swan, in 2012. They share two children: Aleph, born in 2011, and Amalia, born in 2017.

Portman is outspoken about animal rights and has been vocal about her plant-based diet. In 2011, she was appointed as ambassador of WE Charity, spearheading their Power of a Girl campaign.
