How do you up the ante on a dress covered from top to bottom in stars? If you’re celebrity hairstylist Kristin Ess, you add even more celestial shapes to your client’s ‘do!
Creating our beauty crush of the week, Ess tells Us that she took one look at Ashley Tisdale‘s dreamy, star-spangled maxi for Guitar Hero’s Live Launch Party, held in L.A. on Monday, Oct. 19, and was instantly inspired to create a confetti-accented hairstyle.
“I picked up various sizes of gold star confetti on the way to Ashley’s place from a party store,” the pro, who also styles Lauren Conrad and Lucy Hale, tells Us Weekly exclusively. “When we sat down to get her ready, I ran the idea by her. We both love creative, fun hair ideas, so she was game right away.”
The star-shaped sequins are, of course, stunning, but how exactly did she make them stay? Turns out, all it took was a little lash glue. “It stays rubbery and is easy to peel off,” Ess explains. “I put the tiniest bit on the back of each star and applied them using tweezers. It took about five to seven minutes to apply.”
Be warned, though: The Beauty Department co-founder says that confetti gluing should only be done by a professional. “This is one of those ‘do not try this at home’ things. If you put too much glue you’re going to have a disaster on your hands — or head!” she dishes.
But fear not! You can get the style for yourself. “There’s a company called Charmsies that makes much more user-friendly [hair charms] that will give you a similar look,” Ess says. Shop a three-pack of star Charmsies in either gold or silver for $33 at QVC.com.
