It takes a village—unless you’re Blake Lively!
The Gossip Girl alum premiered her new film, The Age of Adaline, on Sunday, April 19, in NYC. And although she had a little help from her glam squad for the premiere, turns out the blonde bombshell has skills, too!
“I do my hair a lot for things, because I’m always asking people when they’re doing my hair [many questions so that I can learn]. I’m that annoying person!” the 27-year-old actress, who rocked Old Hollywood curls and shimmering beauty (applied by Elaine Offers for L’Oreal Paris), told Us Weekly. But her favorite of all these style: “I like braids—crazy, messy braids.”
Indeed, Lively’s rocked big, bold plaits to a number of events, including—but not limited to—the Green Lantern premiere in L.A. in June 2011, the NYC premiere of Savages in June 2012, Gucci’s “Chime for Change” event (in the Big Apple) in May 2014, and at the Cannes Film Festival, also in May 2014.
And yes, the new mom to James, almost 4 months, loves braids so much, she managed to get a few incorporated into her Adaline style, too. (Especially in the ’90s.) But while she adores her French braids and fishtails, she fell for a totally different look while filming.
“I love the fashion and music of the 1940s, and I had some pretty cool costumes in the ’50s, too,” Lively told Us. “There was one scene where it was raining and very film noir, and I had this really cool hairdo.” The style in question: short, pinned curls a la Marilyn Monroe. (See the glam poster.)
Adaline (in theaters April 24) had Lively trying fashion and beauty looks from the ’20s all the way through today—almost 90 years as an always-stylish 29-year-old. But, hard as it is to believe, Mrs. Ryan Reynolds confessed that her personal style history is a little more spotty.
“Yeah, hello, [I had an awkward phase!]” she laughed. “Braces, lots of acne, and, you know, eyeshadow that matched my colored pants because the most popular girl in school did that! She was awesome.”
