Celebrities Are Making ‘Glitter Tears’ a New Beauty Trend

Suki Waterhouse started something major. As Us Weekly previously reported, the British native took a page out of the “How to Cover Dark Circles” beauty meme‘s playbook and rocked a bunch of sparkles under her eyes for the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies premiere in London on Monday, February 1.

Her bold choice could have been a brave one-off, but instead, the look has taken off, showing up all over the globe since its debut. Elle Fanning was the next to sport the trend, modeling smudged gold and silver glitter tears at the Saint Laurent fashion show in L.A. on February 10.

The fashion world then took up the mantle. Celebrity makeup artist Wendy Rowe, who first gave Waterhouse the look, took a more extreme version to the Burberry London Fashion Week runway. Models sashayed down the catwalk with fresh faces adorned with gold sparkles beneath the outer corners of their eyes and on the upper cheek bones.

Even the men who walked in the Burberry show partook in the sparkly fun. “Once we did glitter on one boy, they were all desperate to have it, which I found quite entertaining,” the makeup artist mused in a blog recapping the collection on January 14.

Rowe, who is Burberry Beauty’s artistic consultant, credits a fashion glossy for the original idea. “[The glitter look] was inspired by the Christie Turlington cover I did with French Vogue,” she said of Turlington’s October issue, marking 95 years of Vogue Paris.
