Make-under magic!
Elle Fanning is serious when it comes to her craft, as evidence proves with her latest look in New York City on Thursday, Dec. 4. No reason to be alarmed though, her shocking make-under punctuated by a short red boyish hairstyle is actually just a wig — still, a dramatic departure from the gowns and elegant updos she normally wears on the red carpet.
In the film, Three Generations, Fanning portrays Ray, the daughter of Maggie, played by Naomi Watts. Fanning’s character is a New York City teen transitioning from female to male, and her mother is adjusting to raising her only daughter as a son.
The hairstyle, even shorter than the shaggier look she debuted on set in November, was paired up with an army green jacket, clunky boots, and baggy clothes.
After transforming her long platinum tresses into an auburn bob, the Maleficent star described changing style to Style.com in October.
“I used to be a lot girlier than I am now—the collared shirts and frilly short dresses,” she told the fashion website. “I guess every girl kind of goes through that stage. Now I’m definitely willing to be more boyish and a little more sleek.”
