Fighting the brave fight!
Four months into her battle with breast cancer, longtime ESPN sports reporter Shelley Smith is far from giving up. After announcing her diagnosis in October, the 57-year-old journalist, who has worked with the network since 1997, made the difficult decision to shave her head, revealing the entire process to her more than 26,000 followers via Twitter on Thursday, Feb. 19.

Days before on Tuesday, Feb. 17, she posted an image of the first strand of hair that had fallen out of her head since she began treatments in January 2015.
"Getting clipped by the best!! World famous Chuck Taylor. Yesterday Shaw, today me," she captioned the courageous image. Smith is pictured sitting down in the famed L.A.-based barber’s chair, fully made-up, and sporting a look of confidence.

After the process was complete, she posted another photo with her daughter by her side. “My daughter Dylann (the one w the hair) my moral support! I didn’t cry,” Smith tweeted.
Smith announced her diagnosis in a stream of empowering tweets. "I now join the one in eight women who are battling breast cancer. Early detection will save my life. Tell loved ones," she wrote. She has since been chronicling her journey online.
