Taking cues from daughter Willow — or, uh, Miley? Jada Pinkett Smith touched down at LAX airport in Los Angeles on Monday Oct. 7 with a startling new haircut. After sporting long waves (and occasionally braids) for years, the actress, 42, debuted a seriously punk-inspired ‘do that takes a cue from Miley Cyrus, Cassie and other trendsetting women in the spotlight: Completely shaved on the sides with a short, hipster-style locks at the top. Will Smith‘s wife of 16 years completed the rocker look with skinny jeans, buckled boots, denim shirt, a flannel tied around her waist, a blazer, and sunglasses.
The Madagascar 3 actress, who is mom to scene-stealing kids Willow, 12, and Jaden, 15, indeed has rocker roots, too: The singer-songrwriter has been the frontwoman to metal band Wicked Wisdom for over ten years.
Celebrating her 42nd birthday last month (on Sept. 18), Jada made a surprising revelation to her fans via Facebook: A past struggle with addictions.
“I had many addictions, of several kinds, to deal with my life issues, but today, at 42, I have my wisdom, my heart and my conscience as the only tools to overcome life’s inevitable obstacles. I have become a good problem solver with those tools, and I am damn proud,” she wrote, without delving in to further detail about the struggles.
