These plaits are gold! This summer, it's all about fresh braids. From Lucy Hale's pleated mohawk to Gigi Hadid's braided bun, scroll to see the season's best (and most unique!) hairstyles — with expert tips on how to create each one!
How to Recreate the Coolest Braids for Summer
1. Brush hair up into a topknot, leaving a 1-inch piece free at the bottom.
2. Braid the loose piece and secure with an elastic. Use your fingers to loosen the braid, giving it an "undone" look.
3. Wrap the braid around the bun and pin into place.

1. Make a high ponytail on the top of the crown area.
2. Braid the ponytail, making it looser at the roots and tighter at the ends.
3. Secure the braid with an elastic and then open up the braid more with your fingers to create volume and width.

1. Section the hair into three pieces, making sure the middle piece is no more than an inch-and-a-half wide.
2. With the middle section, create a tight boxer braid down to the nape of the neck.
3. Brush the rest of the hair into a low ponytail beneath the end of the braid and secure.

1. Create a side part.
2. Using the fuller side, create a figure-eight braid (a variation on the standard French braid with more volume) down the side of the hair and secure with an elastic band at the nape of the neck.
3. Braid the ponytail and finish with a second elastic in a contrasting shade to your hair.

1. Part the hair down the middle into two sections.
2. Create a fishtail braid on each side. Use your fingers to pull the braid apart slightly for texture.
3. Crisscross the two braids for the headband or crown and pin into place. Tuck the elastic under the braids for a finished look.
