Charlize Theron poked fun at her weight while onstage at the amfAR Inspiration Gala in Los Angeles on Thursday, October 27. As previously reported, the actress packed on almost 40 pounds for her role in upcoming flick Tully, in which she plays a mom of three who recently gave birth prior to becoming a nanny.
“Yes, I am very fat right now,” Theron said after Chelsea Handler cracked a joke about the actress’ weight gain while introducing the Mad Max star at the bash, which was supported by Belvedere.
Theron, 41, looked gorgeous at the event in a loose-fitting black lace gown and blazer.
The Oscar winner received the Inspiration Award for her work fighting HIV/AIDS with her charity, Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project.
Theron told the star-studded audience at the event that she believes there’s a cure for HIV/AIDS around the corner, but that their job isn’t done.
“We need big and bold investments in outreach,” she said. “We need big, bold ideas to fight poverty [and] end discrimination in hard-to-reach places. We need big, bold messages to fight apathy in our governments and in our own communities. And if we’re going to end stigma, we’re going to have to check our own biases and ask who are we missing when we talk about ending AIDS?”
Jason Derulo performed at the bash, and other attendees included Jane Lynch, Heidi Klum, Lea Michele, Jon Hamm and Kelsey Grammer.
