J.R. Ewing has suffered a setback.
Dallas actor Larry Hagman has been diagnosed with cancer. The 80-year-old said in a statement, excerpted by E! Online, he has "a very common and treatable form of cancer."
"As J.R., I could get away with anything — bribery, blackmail and adultery," he said. "But I got caught by cancer."
TNT is creating a reboot of the 1980's series expected to premiere in the summer of 2012, and cancer won't prevent Hagman from being a part of it. "I will be receiving treatment while working on the new Dallas series," he said.
"I could not think of a better place to be than working on a show I love, with people I love. Besides, as we all know, you can't keep J.R. down!" Hagman added.
TNT and the cast and crew working on Dallas issued their own statement in support of Hagman: "We look forward to watching Larry once again work his magic by bringing one of television's most interesting, complex and controversial characters back to the screen in the new Dallas series."
