Olivia Wilde, Royal Husband Separate After 8 Years
Although Olivia Wilde's Hollywood career is getting hotter and hotter, her royal marital life has hit a deep freeze.
After eight years of marriage, Wilde and filmmaker husband Tao Ruspoli have separated, the Tron: Legacy actress' rep confirms to UsMagazine.com.
Now 26, Wilde eloped with Ruspoli -- the son of late Italian Prince Dado Ruspoli -- at age 18, just six months after they were fixed up. The site of their wedding wasn't a royal palace or another lavish setting -- it was an abandoned school bus in rural Virginia.
"The bus was the only place we could be completely alone," Wilde told Playboy in November. "The wedding was a secret, and we wanted to do it someplace where we could hide with our best friends. It was all about the intimacy of the promise we were making."
She added of the quirky wedding venue: "We were hippies. We lived on that bus for months."
The House M.D. star never used her royal moniker, she told Playboy. "I never call myself [a princess]," she said in Playboy. "I occasionally get mail that says 'Principessa.' It's all part of being this lucky person who has been welcomed into an interesting family with a long history...How many people get to say 'This castle has been in our family since the 1400s?'"
In December, the actress told Women's Health magazine that their unconventional courtship might help their marriage last. "You're not thinking, 'We must be perfect!'" she told the magazine. "It was, 'Hey, isn't this an optimistic thing to do? And if it lasts, we're lucky.'"
The glamorous star also said her royal hubby didn't mind her increasingly sexy image (she posed nearly naked on the new issue of Vanity Fair) or her love scenes with other men on screen.
"I think he likes it," she said. "It's a turn-on that I get to do these things."
