‘Cause she’s happy. A miffed Tia Mowry shut down all pregnancy speculation in a recent interview with HuffPost Live and called out her fat-shamers.
In an Instagram post this past summer, the Sister, Sister alum, 37, posted a fake pregnancy test meme that read “Just fat” in the results tab. “FYI. For all the people that think I’m pregnant,” Mowry wrote at the time. “I’m NOT just enjoying life and eating and cooking some great food! Thanks.”
HuffPost host Nancy Redd shared that social media moment and asked Mowry to address the body-shamers. “Guys, I am not pregnant, I am just happy,” the Tia Mowry at Home host replied. “I’ve gained these extra 10, 15 pounds because of my cooking show . . . Honey, I eat my food. I’m just enjoying life and, when I want to drop the pounds, I will, but right now I’m happy with who I am.”
Mowry then had some additional things to say to her critics. “It is a form of body-shaming, I will say that,” the star explained. “And it’s pretty unfortunate. The reason why I say that is because I think that we live in a society that is so obsessed with being perfect. It’s almost like, what Beyonce said . . . ‘Perfection is like a disease’ in one of her songs. Why can’t we just be us, you know?”
The former ’90s star, who is the mom of a 4-year old son, Cree, said she deals with frequent body commentary on social media. “Somebody even wrote on my Instagram page today, ‘Looks like you’ve gained a little weight. I hope you lose it. I want you to lose it,'” she shared. “Why would you say that?”
She speculates that her critics, however, may just be dealing with their own personal issues. “I say, ‘Is that how you love yourself?’” the Rosewood actress said. “We need to be more supportive — just about everything.”
