From Sisterhood to motherhood. Amber Tamblyn announced her first pregnancy with husband David Cross in a poignant essay she published online on Wednesday, October 26.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants actress, 33, casually slid the news into her contribution for Glamour magazine, an eloquent think piece about what it means to be a woman and a mother during this turbulent election cycle.

“I’ve been thinking about motherhood a lot lately. What it means to be one, what it means to have one, what it means to know one, what it means to make decisions as one and have conversations as one,” she wrote. “I am very lucky to be surrounded by strong mothers, from my own mom to some of my best friends — those who are raising young women to accept themselves and those who are raising young men to accept women.”

“Motherhood has been heavily on my mind because I am going to be a mother soon,” the Joan of Arcadia actress continued. “I’m pregnant, with a daughter on the way. I think constantly about the world I am bringing her into.”

This will be the first child for Tamblyn and husband Cross, 52. The longtime Brooklyn-based pair tied the knot in October 2012.

Earlier this month, Tamblyn shared a harrowing story of her past sexual assault via social media in the wake of Donald Trump’s sexist video scandal. In her piece for Glamour, the actress recounted how she had reluctantly made a phone call to her mother to talk openly about the assault that she wrote about so publicly.

“Somewhere between Donald Trump calling Hillary Clinton a woman with ‘tremendous hate in her heart’ and ‘a nasty woman,’ I found myself making a phone call to my mother I was hoping I could avoid forever,” she wrote. “A story I shared about an encounter with an ex-boyfriend had gone viral, and I feared she would read about it in the news … Will I get a phone call from my daughter someday, one she never wanted to make? Will I have to share with her my story, and the story of her great-grandmother’s words to her grandmother? It is possible to protect her from inheriting this pain?”

Tamblyn has been an outspoken supporter of Hillary Clinton throughout the election, campaigning for the Democratic presidential nominee and encouraging fans to get out and vote.
