Lady Antebellum singer Charles Kelley’s wife, Cassie, didn’t want a “kitschy baby shower,” so instead, her friends and family celebrated her pregnancy the good ol’ Nashville way! In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, the country crooner’s love takes Us inside her easygoing baby shower.
“I just wanted to have everyone I love together,” Cassie tells Us of her bash, which took place at 5th & Taylor on Sunday, Nov. 15. “I didn’t open gifts. I didn’t do any games. I just wanted it to be a great gathering for everyone to get together.”
She and her country singer husband are expecting their first baby, a boy, due in February. The couple tied the knot in June 2009.
The Womanista lifestyle brand founder even opted for a BCBG dress she found on sale for the event, where she noshed on monkey bread, omelets, grits, bacon, and hot chili fried chicken with her guests, who also enjoyed cocktails including peach bellinis. They celebrated the baby-to-be with a gorgeous light blue three-tier diaper cake, as well as Gigi cupcakes.
Cassie’s pregnancy has been equally laid-back. “I have no complaints,” she happily reveals. “Which is really, really rare. I mean I felt awesome and I never was sick and I haven’t really been like craving anything crazy. It’s just kind of like he’s just already blending in with our life and with my life, which I hope he continues to do when he’s born.”
As for her hubby, Kelley, 34, can’t wait to become a dad.
“He’s so excited. He’s gonna be just the best dad. We have a lot of nieces and nephews, so he’s used to being around kids and he’s so incredibly calm and fun around them,” she added of the country star, whose brother, Josh Kelley, is married to Katherine Heigl. “We’re excited and ready for this next chapter.”
