Gaga's a Godmother!

As long speculated, Elton John and husband David Furnish have anointed Lady Gaga as the godmother of their son Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, born last December.

"Yes, yes she is," John, 63, finally confirms to Barbara Walters in an upcoming interview teased Friday morning on Good Morning America. "When you get to the real person under there, there's a real simple person under there who loves her parents."

Added Furnish, 48: "Zachary's going to inherit an incredible musical legacy from his father one day, and she will be a good person to guide him through the ins and outs of the music business, 'cause she sure knows everything about the business now."

The couple have long hinted about Gaga's involvement in their little boy's life. John joked on Saturday Night Live April 2, "I've always said that Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids. And Gaga loves Mars. She says Mars has good schools and great discos."

John and Furnish first broke the news of their little boy's Christmas 2010 birth exclusively to Us Weekly.

"We are overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this very special moment," the couple of 15-plus years (who married in 2005) told Us in a joint statement. "Zachary is healthy and doing really well, and we are very proud and happy parents."

Maybe he sees something in her we don't. I highly doubt he'd choose just anyone. Yes, she might be loco in the public eye at times but at least she could teach him the things she expresses through her music like love and acceptance. Congrats Gaga!

Oh Amanda the Gaga role model comment wasn't directed at you hun or with you or anything, that was my personal opinion which I was just freely stating. When I was saying that I agreed with you I meant that I agreed with you on that it's publicity and that there there should be at least I would think someone he has known and trusted for a long time that he could have been chosen :) That is all :)

Let's face it at 63 years old most of Eltonâ??s long time friends are also older or dead (a la Liz Taylor, Princess Di, etc.) so they needed to pick someone who isnâ??t likely to croak before Zachary is grown up. With their close friends and family running late forties and older, there is a really probability many of them wonâ??t be around when Zachary comes of age. What to do but pick someone younger? It actually makes a certain amount of sense. Gaga is very gay friendly and supportive of the alternate lifestyles, she's fun, she is creative and musical like Zacharyâ??s daddies, she loves life, and she's younger. I have no doubt Elton and David absolute are besotted with and dote on their son and they have solid and good reasons for choosing Gaga.

Amanda, I agree with you 100 percent. I am sure there are several disappointed family members and "long time" friends of the couple.

my comment before had nothing to do with Gaga actually - I don't care what kind of role model she is (although I almost spewed coffee on the screen at the comment that she's 'intellectual' lol), I just think it's silly to ensure the safety of your child to someone you've known for a year or two. He's 63 years old, surely he has a family member, or a lifelong friend, maybe someone he's known inside and out for years and years

She's a horrible role model? Lady Gaga is a true entertainer and on stage is not the same person she is off. She's a "character" as Lady Gaga. I grew up as Madonna being a role model for girls in the 80's. Look how far she's come. She's a talented business woman who also made a "character" performing. I'm sure Elton and his husband know her on a deeper level than any of those who judge by mere appearance. Never judge a book by it's cover! You never know what is inside once you open it and start to read!!!!

It's sad to assume the kid will be going into the music business anyway...how about letting the child grow into himself and his own interests first instead of seemingly "grooming" him for it. Good gravy. I respect Elton but this is ridiculous. Doesn't his partner have family? A younger sibling or whatever should anything happen? When picking a godparent it is supposed to be about someone who can truly raise a child, morally, emotionally, everything about it. I don't think Gaga's capable. Granted the odds of something actually happening to BOTH Elton and his partner are pretty slim. I am hoping, like the Queen of England, this role will be symbolic!

You commentators are pathetic! What's it to you who the godmother is?? I for once think it's a terrific choice, someone as accepting and intellectual as Gaga is would be perfect.

I'm speechless!!!!! That poor child! She's a HORRIBLE role model. Elton John you are CLUELESS!! I love your music, but man, you are CLUELESS!

Personally I don't think she is a good role model at all and I personal wouldn't let her near my children, but too each their own, just my personal opinion. I competely agree with Amanda on this one.

Really? a 25 year old girl is godmother to his child? A woman he's known how long? a year or two? Surely to god a 63 year old man has friends in his life that he's known for 40 years and really love/respect/trust? Oh wait, it's all fake publicity garbage, I forgot. My bad.
