Kate Hudson’s go-to outfit for date night with her sons: pajamas! “My favorite thing to do with my kids is movie night,” the Deepwater Horizon actress told Us Weekly at the fifth annual Baby2Baby Gala in Culver City, California, on Saturday, November 12. “It’s nice when they’re calm. We run around so much, so it’s really nice to settle them down.”
The 37-year-old is mom of Bing, 5, with former fiancé Matt Bellamy, and Ryder, 12, with ex-husband Chris Robinson.
“The age difference [between the boys] is big, so it’s nice to do something we can all do, where Bing’s not going to, like, really hurt himself because he’s trying to keep up with his brother,” Hudson, wearing a fitted J. Mendel gown, told Us at the event. “So that’s why movies are good.”
Of course, no family night is complete without a snack. “I like to make different kinds of homemade popcorn,” says the Mother’s Day star, whose specialty is rosemary garlic popcorn. “I’m really into it because it’s low-cal!”
In September, Hudson revealed she has accepted that she’s “the OK mom” sometimes. “I don’t try to sugarcoat things,” she said in the September issue of Marie Claire. “I’ll say, ‘I’m doing the best I can.’ I like cooking; I like presenting. I like it to be an experience and [my kids] help me with it, but if they want something after that, I’ll be like, ‘Look, I’m placing a meal out for you like a king. I can’t do everything. I’m going to have to be the OK mom.’”
