Katherine Heigl and her husband Josh Kelley are adopting a baby, her rep confirms to Usmagazine.com.

The Grey's Anatomy star, 30 — who wed her musician husband, 29, in December 2007 — announced the news on Friday's Ellen DeGeneres Show.

"It is a little girl and she'll be 10 months at the end this month," she said. "She was actually born the day before me in November, which I thought was really serendipitous and just kind of like a sign. I realized just recently that I basically forfeited my birthday for the rest of my life."

RadarOnline.com, which first reported the news, says the 10-month-old is named Nayleigh.

On Ellen, Heigl explained the name.

"I am naming her after my mother and sister Nancy, Leigh," she said. "So we call her Naleigh."

Heigl, whose sister Meg was adopted from Korea, has said she "always planned" to adopt.

"I'm done with the whole idea of having my own children," Heigl has told USA Today. "[It] doesn't seem like any fun. I don't think it's necessary to go through all of that."

ABC announced on Sept. 2 that Heigl is taking a five-episode break from Grey's Anatomy, but has already taped six episodes that will air through November.

She begins filming romantic comedy Life As We Know It costarring Josh Duhamel next week.

I have adopted a child and you never want to say "I didn't want one of my own." She is your own! It is cool that her sister is of the same decent. They will give the baby a great life. Why is everyone so negative?

Oh, so she one of those types...don't want to mess up my body getting fat by having a baby!

So happy for them both to have a child they can love soon! Best wishes to the lovely new family to be.

Yea, what a great thing that she used her money and celebrity to step over all the other families that would have loved to adopt from Korea but couldn't. You see THEY had to follow the country criteria. Unflippinbelievable. You would think to be a celebrity and adopt would be harder than for the average Joe seeing how most kids who have famous parents are the most messed up of all.

Hope the kid doesn't turn out to be a smug bitch like her "mother" is.

Good for her and her husband that child will have alot of love waiting for her.

I find it very noble of both her and her husband to adopt. Whether or not they can have biological children, is to their discretion not the public's. As 1:21 pointed out, the fact that you carried a baby for 10 months doesn't make you a mother, it's how you raise that child and if you and your partner love and care for the child unconditionally. Cograts to both! :)

When she says the she is done with the whole idea of having a baby it really means that she has tried and can't have one on her own. Give her a break it is heartbreaking when this happens. Also I know several woman who have adopted then relaxed and suddenly got pregnant. Good luck to Katherine and her family.

Why is everyone making such a big deal over the fact she's adopting? Their new little girl will get a good home with parents who love and support her. She will be thier daughter in every way that matters and it shouldn't matter that she didn't carry her for 10 months and deliver her. Congtarts Katherine and Josh!

This isn't breaking news! Most couples adopt now

No one is assuming that the baby is from Korea... it says so in the same article posted by People magazine. And actually, this article has changed since it first showed up. The original article stated that it was a special needs baby from Korea.

    seriously? this is breaking news?

If you listen to her interview at ET you will see she was very surprised that it happened so quickly because she expected it to take several years. There have been no special favors here just because she is a celebrity with money. The child has special needs and as a result they were keen to place her in a good family environment so it happened sooner than expected.

Good for them, giving a child a home that needs a home and thats all that matters...they also have the funds to help her in any way she needs, love and a good home..thats all kids want

She does not want to have a baby of her own because she does not want to get fat from being pregnant.

  • September 10, 2009 - 10:19am Anonymous

So in othere words she does not want to get fat so doesn't want to have a baby.

To: Anonymous Maybe that "FRAUD" Jennifer Aniston wants to be in a stable relationship before deciding to have a baby and/or adopt one... Wow, what a thought!

  • September 10, 2009 - 10:02am Anonymous

SPECIAL NEEDS or NOT the country criteria is three years marriage...follow along.

Lori, if she wants to adopt a baby that's great. Who are you to criticize? You seem to think you know her personally.

  • September 10, 2009 - 9:34am Anonymous
