‘Tis the season! Katherine Heigl — along with husband Josh Kelley — was recently the guest of honor at a holiday-themed baby shower. The Doubt actress, 38, gave an inside look into the intimate bash on her blog, Heavenly Days.
“My mother very graciously threw Josh and I the most beautiful and celebratory baby shower last weekend,” Heigl wrote on Saturday, December 10. “She asked me for some direction on the decor and the vibe I was hoping for, so I headed straight to Pinterest to cultivate a look for the shower that spoke to not only the holidays, but also our mountain home in Utah where the baby will be born.”
“I loved that my mom [Nancy Heigl] involved me and that I got to contribute my ideas,” she added. “I’m kind of a control freak on occasion… OK more often than not, so getting to have a voice when it came to the shower was pretty awesome for me!”
The star’s mom, who gave a “heartfelt toast,” went all out for the special occasion. The invitations had a “classic Stork” theme, while the party venue was decorated with winter white bouquets and a Christmas tree, plus rustic table settings with rattan place mats, shed deer antlers, pinecones and white gourds.
The Grey’s Anatomy alum was excited about the menu too. Guests were treated to appetizers and sipped holiday-inspired cocktails at an open bar. Afterward, everyone dug into cake and sugar cookies.
“I’ve had quite the sweet tooth throughout this pregnancy so the cake was also pretty significant to me,” Katherine wrote. “I found some perfect examples of the kind of simple beauty I was looking for and then told the bakers to make sure the frosting was not only decorative but delicious too. They nailed it!”
Us Weekly confirmed in June that Katherine and the musician, 36, who tied the knot in 2007, were expecting their third child — a baby boy. The couple are already parents of daughters Naleigh, 8, and Adalaide, 4. (The pair adopted Naleigh from South Korea in 2009 and Adalaide domestically in 2012.)
Katherine is looking forward to the next chapter, and is thankful for her loved ones. “Not only did I absolutely love how beautifully everything turned out but I could not have been more grateful for all my friends, family and co-workers who showed up to shower us with good wishes and support. It was a magical night full of love, laughter great food, holiday cheer and anticipation for the new life we are about to welcome into our world,” she wrote on Saturday. “It is truly a magical time of year to be welcoming in new life and celebrating God’s hope for us, his faith in us, and his unconditional love. It is how all us parents feel about our children and Josh and I are no exception!”
