Kelsey Grammer must be a pro in the delivery room! The Cheers alum and his wife, Kayte Grammer, welcomed a baby boy, Auden James Ellis, on Monday, November 14, the actor’s rep tells Us Weekly.
The little one, who will go by his middle name, James, weighed 7 pounds and measured 21 inches long at birth. “Both mother and son are doing great,” the rep tells Us.
In a separate statement, the couple explained that there was some significance behind their son’s moniker. “The name was chosen to honor the great poet W.H. Auden, and James is after another great poet and singer, James Taylor — two of our favorites,” Kelsey and Kayte said in a statement.
Ellis is a family name, though, from the actor’s great grandfather on his mother's side. “He was a colorful character, to say the least, and we wanted to give the name a second chance,” the parents said.
The pair, who married in 2011, also share Faith, 4, and Gabriel, 2. The former Frasier star, 61, also has four other children: Spencer, 33, from his marriage to Doreen Alderman; Greer, 24, from his relationship with Barrie Buckner; and Mason, 15, and Jude, 12, from his marriage to Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Camille Grammer.
Back in September, Greer confirmed to Us Weekly that her dad was expecting another child and gushed about what an amazing father he is. “I’m very excited,” the Awkward actress told Us. “I mean, my dad, he loves little kids. He always has. He’s a huge little-child fan, and he’s just so good at it. Him and Kayte are such good partners and they parent so well together and they just want this kind of big family. So now I’m going to be one of seven, which is crazy.”
