Exclusive: Madonna: I Wish Lourdes, 13, Would "Dress More Conservatively"

Madonna may be a style icon, but that doesn’t mean daughter Lourdes Leon, 13, takes her advice. "If anything, I wish she'd dress more conservatively," says the pop star, 51. "How's that for irony?"
In a rare interview in the new Us Weekly (on newsstands Wednesday), Madonna opens up about her budding fashionista and their first collaboration: the aptly named teen clothing line Material Girl, set to hit Macy's stores this August.

Why a teen collection?
"I did a line for H&M, which I enjoyed, but it was a lot of work," she tells Us Weekly. "I thought, I don't want to give up the rest of my careers, so I'm not going to do my own line again. But I have a 13-year-old with tireless energy who wanted to do this. I’ve been involved in business meetings, but Lola's really doing the work. I just sit in the corner on my BlackBerry!"

She says her daughter's style "is inspired by kids she sees in hip-hop and ballet classes, European influences, bands she listens to. You could say it's in the DNA — but I could never tell her how to dress! She also comes to my photo and video shoots, pulls outfits together and gives her input to a lot of my fashion-designer friends. Whether it’s Marc Jacobs or Stella McCartney, they always ask her what she thinks."

Like a true lefty, Madonna sees nothing wrong with exploiting her own sexuality and creating an empire that invites millions of pre-teen girls the world over to emulate her, yet when it is her daughter that wants to sex herself up, suddenly it’s “conservative” time for Mz Madonna! This is a direct admission that she knows that what she has spent the last 40 years doing was illicit, wrong, and bad for kids. But, you see, when it’s her fans and her fans parents that are being harmed, Madonna doesn’t care. But should her own child start down that path it’s Katie bar the door and time to enroll the girl in a Nunnery. Suddenly Mz Madonna becomes all prudish and wants to prevent the sexual exploitation of her own daughter.

Madonna is an adult and can dress and do as she likes, Lourdes is a child and should abide by her parents' rules. Do adults drive, dress however they want, go out, stay up late, drink, smoke, etc? But that doesn't mean that children should be allowed to do any of those things or that the parents are hypocrites for telling their kids not do to something an adult could possibly do. Ignorance.
they are both beatufiul. She is 13, she can pick out her own clothes. If she dresses like a sluut or something just completly inapropiate, the mom can step in, but most of the time 13 year olds can pick out there own clothes. Haters, what do you that situation when you were 13?

First of all at 13 children do pick out there own clothes, so just because she picks out her own clothes does not mean Modonna is a bad mom. I'm sure she's not perfect, but you don't know her, so you can't call her bad. Also Lourdes looks fine, she's wearing a jacket, and her dress is at a fine length for a dress, doesn't mean she's a hoe, i've seen girls wear a lot worse! Madonna is one of those people that should never have had children, let alone be allowed to adopt! Since when do thirteen year olds make the rules? Madonna is not a parent nor any kind of a role model for these kids! They will more than likely end up as scum like their mother!

That's right, a 13 year-old girl is designing a fashion line and she's had Stella McCartney as a mentor, plus discussed fashion with D&G, and all before she even enters HS. Madonna's a genius and she's passing on that brilliance and worth ethic onto her daughter. I applaud Madonna for treating her daughter as an individual, artist, and letting her express her creativity in a productive way.
