Two cute! When Peter Lok and Amber Young created an Instagram account for their twin daughters, Leia and Lauren, they never expected their girls would become Internet celebrities with 207,000 followers. “We just wanted to document their growing journey, and it was the perfect platform to share with our friends, family and like-minded parents [of preemies],” Lok tells Us Weekly.
On Instagram, the 8-month-old girls are described as “MoMo” twins. This is short for monoamniotic-monochorionic, which means they are identical twins who shared the amniotic sac and placenta but had two separate umbilical cords. “This occurs in only about 1 percent of all twin pregnancies,” Lok explains. Leia and Lauren were born at 32 weeks, weighing 1.5kg and 1.6kg, respectively, as a result of the high-risk condition. “They had to spend one full month in ICU and special care,” says Lok. Now, though, “both are 11kg … certainly a far cry from the early days!”
While the Singapore-based sisters wear adorable coordinated outfits and costumes, they have very distinct personalities. Marvels their proud papa: “Leia is more reserved around people and Lauren is the outgoing and cheeky one!”
Lok, who works in finance, and Yong, who works in marketing, stage their photo shoots right after nap time. Each session takes at most 15 minutes. “Daddy is a passionate leisure photographer while Mommy loves to play with quirky concepts and styling,” says Lok. “Leia and Lauren are very jovial babies and they’re not camera-shy, so it’s not tough for us to capture a moment!”
