Michelle Obama Takes Sasha to See Lion King for 8th Birthday

As part of their private visit to London, First Lady Michelle Obama took daughters Sasha and Malia Obama to the West End performance of Disney's The Lion King on Tuesday.

The visit was in celebration of Sasha's 8th birthday on Wednesday.

En route to the United States from Paris, the Obama family has visited the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, the Harry Potter film set and a traditional British pub, where they enjoyed fish and chips.

"It was a quiet night – everyone was so surprised," says waitress Cinthia Pinto, 24, who served the group on June 8. "There was no fanfare or hoopla, she tells Usmagazine.com. "We knew there was a special booking [for a private table of 15], but I had no idea who it would be."

"Michelle was holding her daughters' hands [when they came in] and we escorted them upstairs, where they had the dining room to themselves," she says. "I have to admit, I was nervous, but Mrs. Obama has a very calm voice, and she made us feel at ease. She even apologized for causing any trouble. But it was no trouble at all – it was really our honor."

As they sat down and ordered drinks (Pepsi for the girls; house white wine for Michelle and the other adults), Michelle said to the waitress, "'I'm looking forward to some famous English food.'"

After consulting with the table, Michelle made the order to the waitress: fish and chips for Malia and Sasha (which consisted of chunky chips, peas and hand-battered haddock), sirloin Angus steak and chips for herself and prime beef burgers and chips for the other men at the table.

"Everybody was in a good mood and enjoyed their meal," says Pinto. They were talking a lot and laughing."
