First-time father Mario Lopez is thrilled to be a pop, but he admits he and girlfriend Courtney Mazza got a few surprises when they welcomed daughter Gia in September.
"My girl thought we were having a boy the whole time," the Extra host, 37, told UsMagazine.com at an event Tuesday to celebrate the Boys & Girls Clubs of America's 20th anniversary of its name change.
So when they realized they were having a daughter, he couldn't hold back his laughter. "I found it funny," Lopez, who had to rush back from an engagement in Las Vegas to make it for the birth, told Us. "I don't know why!"
But the twosome, who met while starring in Broadway's A Chorus Line in 2008, adjusted quickly -- even redecorating their blue-hued nursery. "There's pink everywhere!" Lopez said, adding that Mazza, "is an awesome mom, a natural."
Lopez notes that his gal has also excelled at regaining her slim pre-pregnancy bod.
"She's already back to fighting shape," he said. "I couldn't believe it. She's back to the weight she was before. She looks better than ever!"
As for their nearly three-month-old tot? "She's awesome," Lopez said. "She's all about sleeping and eating. She has a good life right now. I'm envious."
